Default horn for racecars?

Hey folks.

My track car still has all the stuff needed to be street registered (lights, blinkers, DOT harnesses, etc.). I want to drive to and from events.

however, it doesn't have a horn, and in TX you need a horn to pass inspection.

Obviously I could install a horn, but was wondering: has anyone rigged up a quick and easy horn for inspection purposes only?

my steering wheel does have a horn button, but it's not hooked up to anything. the previous ownen had stripped the horn out for weight savings (I guess).

if the wiring is still there, just wire it back up. if not, run a seperate horn and button for inspection

I was thinking the same thing a few months ago when thinking of making my street car legal.... my wire is still there and I was thinking of just running the wire to the dash with a button. I don't think Texas requires a horn button on the steering wheel.

However, the other problem I ran into was the lack DOT certification on my harness and no more airbags. I think with these issues, I wouldn't pass.

$15 horn kit from Autozone.
10 minutes of wiring and you are done.

my harness is the DOT legal schroth 6 point (with the orange release button).

my car is a 92 Si, so I don't know if the car ever even had airbags...

that could pose a problem if you HAVE to have airbags...

I think the DFW area is probably similar to NYC. Strict, but probably depends on the tech and his morals.

I would think that a portable air horn would pass muster. Keep it in the car when on roads, take it out for racing.
