95 civic w/ zc motor questions???
I'm looking at buying a 95 civic ex w/ a jdm zc motor. i don't know too much about them (i'm a prelude guy). i work for honda so i'm getting the car for dirt cheapbut it needs some maintenance work. Planning on doing timing belt / drive belts, water pump, fron seals, etc. when i order the parts from honda, what model civic do i choose. civic del sol? not sure too much about this engine. Isn't it the dual cam block from the obd1 b16 del sol w/ a single cam head? please enlighten me about any specs about this motor. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
ZC motors come in both SOHC and DOHC setups. first thing you're gonna want to do is find out which one it is. i have a 95 civic and im thinking about running a DOHC ZC myself so i've done research. the DOHC ZC is actually a D series engine, very similar to the d16a1, d16a3, d16a8, and d16a9 (dont quote me on that because im not positive but im pretty sure those are the ones it is similar to). as far as gaskets and what car it came from, it most likely came out of a 88-91 JDM CRX Si.

id suggest a 96-00 civic ex trans. its almost if not exactly the same gearing as the 92-95 ex trans but has was stronger shift forks. (trust me ive broken them in my 95 ex). but i ordered one from jasper racing with oem ratios, carbon coated snycros, and stronger shift forks. $1500 dollars well spent for someone on their 4th trans. but if you dont plan on beating the hell out of it id say get a junk yard 96-00 trans and send it to the shop to be checked out and freshened up.
i'm sorry but i forgot to mention that this is an automatic trans. this will be my daily driver while i build the h22 motor for the prelude. should i just get another 92-95 auto trans?
oh my bad. idk much about autos. idk if the 92-95 and 96-00 are compatible. but if it was me it take it to a trans shop and ask them how bad it is. if it was ran out of fluid while driving it might not be worth saving. but if the car was bottomed out and it just broke the case and was towed home id look arounf junk yards for a new trans case and you parts into it. it would be a lot of work but would probably be a lot cheaper. do you have any pics of where the case is cracked?
