new head & cams but engine will not start?
i just finished putting in my new reseated head with valves, valve springs ,retainers and skunk2 stage one cam shafts as well as a new timing belt balancer belt with water pump, but my car doesnt want to turn over. my timing is dead ***** TDC and new spark plugs, so asked a few friends one said it could be my ditributer being off 180 degrees but i looked in my service manual and it says the distributor is made so you can [freak] that up, 2 friends said that it will take awhile to turn it over, while the other graduate from UTI said no to try more than a couple times and force it?..... what should i do ?
air, fuel, spark. which one is it working? i know you replaced things, but...
is the distributor sparking to the plugs? is the fuel pump getting fuel to the intectors?

you can put the distributor 180* out, but you will have to force it in. The distributor should easily slide in as the part that slides into the *** of the cam is tapered.
did you verify that the cam timing is on?

my question as well.

If you used the diagram of the distributor cap in the Helms to set up the firing order, keep in mind the cap is pictured upside down, which will throw you off, and the motor will cough a couple of times(learned this the hard way)
it's very easy to install the dist 180 deg out of phase if your not paying attention, seen it done a million times. if you confirm that you have fuel and spark, next i'd check is the fire order and/or if the dist was installed properly.
Pull the cap off, line up cyl 1 at TDC, and check the position of the rotor, that will tell you if your distributor is 180 off, chances are it is not, unless it was forced in. By the way, where are you in CT, if you are close I can give you a hand.
it has to be "forced" in to fit out of phase, but its not much force when someone attaches it wrong, and then proceeds to tighten it down using the bolts, which slowly bends the prongs into the cam slot.
it is probably not possilbe to push the distributor on by hand out of phase and have it flush with the side of the head, w/o at least some hammering or something, thus your manual saying its not possible to do.
however, like i said, it is very possible and i've seen it done plenty of times by either inattentive, inpatient or inexperienced people working on their cars.
the slot on the cam is only a few mm off the center line, which is why it will still fit the wrong way, just that the prongs usually end up getting bent slightly. we are not talkin about trying to stick a square prong into a round hole here.
the time u spend speculating if the dist can or cant be isntalled improperly, you could have probably taken it off time 10x already.
