Ever find your Toyos go out of balance after a few hours, or not balance at all?
Sometimes I try so hard to figure out a vibration problem, and it takes forever, but when I figure it out, the epiphony hits like a ton of bricks. I had this same feeling a few years back when I learned about hub centric rings.
This time, I have 4 almost new Toyo Garrit HT winters. For some reason they never seemed to balance, even when I did it myself. I always spun the tire twice and made sure the machine was calibrated. The tires always had a shimmy or felt bumpy. I thought it was an axle and replaced that even.
I think part of the reason was this:

I took them to get road-forced to see if it was the rim. The rim was fine, but the readings were high (26lbs each) which means on top of everything else, the tires are bumpy.
So 1. they slip if not installed properly, and 2. they are just plain ****.
I won't buy Toyos again that's for sure, and will be marking my tires from now on to monitor them.

If you have a road force machine you can spin the tire and bring the weight down. 26lbs is alot and will cause a vibration. You will have to index the tires and rim and rebalance them using road force. You can bring the 26lbs down to about 5 to 16 which is acceptable and will eliminate your vibration.
Wonder if this issue ever occurs on RA1's? I'll be in the market for a set soon....maybe I should look into Hoosier's.....advice with Toyo RA1's appreciated

Not that I felt or heard of with the RA1. They put the time and effort into that tire. Really have never much anything positive from Toyo other than the RA1.

Seriously, who would have thought this would be a problem? I've NEVER heard of this until now. I hate vibrations, it makes for such an unpleasant highway drive.
My friend has a set of Toyo 205/45/16 I believe and the tread is separating from the carcas.
Unbelievable, these tires don't give me a good feeling.
BTW I'll try repositioning the tire on the rim and re-road forcing.
Both left and right tires read 26lbs.

Toyo tires is the bottom of the pits in JDM oem market which is why they came to US and introduce more crap like Nitto brand to all the ricers. I still remember more then 10 yrs ago when Toyo or Nitto came to US, my Japanese coworker just laugh and told me to stay away.
i had a problem with my proxes 4's i suspected them of slipping and I marked them to make sure and i was right the were slipping under hard acceleration.
That made for one shitty ride! I'm running falken on the street now and i have to say they are 10 times better!

i'm not sure this would be specific to toyos... if so, why would it be. the link you mentioned cites, "All of the test tires, regardless of brand or driving mode, slipped on the rim causing the assemblies to go out-of-balance."
...from reading the article, it seems that the problem is/was incorrect applciation of the lube... not the tire, itself. regardless, this was educational.

Of all the major brand tires I have dealt with, Toyo has been the worst by FAR. Excluding their race tires, I see them break down fast- feathered edges, cupping, etc. Especially their low lines like the 8000 Ultras and all that other crap they sell at Les Schwab...stay away from Toyos!!
I agree that this problem may not be isolated to Toyo, but funny that only Toyo has this bulletin out. I haven't seen another one.
The bead must not fit as tight as other tires. Unlike my Azenis, which really takes a workout to mount. I wouldn't expect slipping from them.
.ohh and I'm sure Toyo says other tires will do this as well, of course they won't admit they are the only ones
