Default Help a Honda Out! (if you're nice)

the long and the short of it:

my friends and i are planning to enter a 24hours of lemons race this summer. the deadline to register is getting very close though. the rules of the race are no cars over 500$ it's basically a **** bucket race that goes on for 24 hours to see which car races the longest. however, the cost of safety equipment doesn't count toward the 500$ salary cap for each car entered. (they consider brakes, wheels, tires, and roll cage as safety equip)

we have a 1992 prelude. that we got for almost nothing. rebuilding the motor. going with the f23block and h23 head w/ type s cams. i can't remember what pistons etc. we are basically choosing parts by what's available at our buddy's junkyard so supplies are limited- so is money.

http://www.24hoursoflemons.com
(^more info on race^)

anyways- we need some help:

1) has anyone ever done a build with the 2.3ltr accord block? what problems might we encounter? what should we look out for?

2)we also need parts! we need to get a decent set of wheels to mount tires on. pref something 15'' x 7 or 16'' x 7.
does anyone have a set of old wheels laying around they don't use and you don't want to put the effort into selling them? WE WILL GLADY EXCEPT DONATIONS!!! lol. or buy them if you make terrific deal. condition doesn't matter. can be scratched to **** as long as they are round. even if you only have 2 wheels! lol or maybe 4 people could end up giving us 1 wheel a piece, of different wheels. that would look cool too. lol. beggers can't be choosers.

any other parts you have laying around that you don't want or need and that you are tired of looking at we will gladly take off your hands. we can pick them up or pay you to ship! (strut bars, cheap *** racing seat, old *** exhuast or 'performance' muffler, etc)

3)anyone done an event similar to this before? any advice to help us and the car? any clue on how we could pick up a few partial sponsors? -willing to ***** the car out as much as possible with stickers! if you or a friend have your own business selling parts or tuning etc. then we would love to help you advertise to lots of car guys by working something out. this event has been coverd by magz like car&driver plus others.

all of my drivers either own or have owned atleast 1 prelude. we want to represent the model as it should be- finishing first.

thanks for your help! i will post pictures of car and our progress soon.

also, we will be willing to trade parts for the wheel or anything else. like i said, my buddy has a junkyard and we are all honda guys so we have other stuff laying around we can get rid of if you need it for your car. for example:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2214797

free to whoever needs them and helps us out!
and we have a set of good condition 4th gen seats to plus full interior in blue to get rid of
plus a sunroof we are taking out of car.
and a rear spoiler

plus a couple other things of value that you don't need after gutting a car and preping for track. so just ask. one of my guy even has a 5th gen front and rear piece of body kit in milano that we can trade out for 4x114 wheels i think.

This is a strange post. It seems your only tech question is if any one has ever had problems with the 2.3itr accord long block?

The rest should be put into the WTB section.

i know, sorry.

i have already gotten pm's of people offering help though so thanks guys! keep it coming. this thread is going to be a story about a junked prelude turning into a $500 race car though so i thought maybe prelude guys would be interested and supportive.

if a mod wants to move it though my feelings won't be hurt. lol

that does seemlight weight for 17's but we are planing on 15's or 16's...that way we can save money on tires too. lol

i guess 14's would work as well? i dunno

what do you think of the car? good deal for $000 with motor? lol

Thanks to our first sponsor: Freedom Used Auto in Wayne West Virginia. they deal only in hondas. has tons of used parts and rebuilt cars. he's vowed to help us out with anything he can and donated us the car. ***keep him in mind when you need used parts too and live somewhat close. all of his prices are very reasonable

well we dont know if we are going vtec or not but i have an abundance of h23 heads so more than likely we will be non vtec. this should be a fun build. like aludew5 said, we would greatly appreciate anything. Freedom used auto is great to deal with. i personaly have tons of experience with them and know them on a personal basis. anything you guys need just let us know.

tim(the owner of freedom used auto) will be donating us a f23 and f22 block for the engine. basicaly will be a stock motor without vtec . going to be gutting the car tomorrow once it arrives to the garage. We will post up pics as soon as the car arrives.

Like Aludew5 said before, does anyone have any experience with the h23 head with the f22 or f23 blocks? in the threads in the FAQ's the f22 block was used with the h22 head. just curious on if the f22 block and the h23 head would work well together. any support is appreciated guys.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1046336 This thread should tell you some of what you need to know about f23/22 block and h23 head. Good luck with the build. I'm sure Pirate can help you with anything else you need to know. I have an f22b2 block (freebie) that i plan on putting my h23 head (freebie) on here shortly, just to have a spare motor so I'd like to know how well it turns out for you guys.

here's some carnage we've done so far. things we've taken off. never to return to our 'themed' prelude again:

a trash container full of stuff... panels we don't need, carpet ****, the rear deck, everything we could think of to take off for starters.

Awsome weight loss! this thing weighed our car down atleast 50 lbs i estimate. (it works, but has small rust spot)

This AC compressor weighed about 15 lbs, too! good thing track cars don't need them

Here's a hint- these are being replaced with 'fins'

see anything interesting?

This was a great weight reduction too. you never know what you'll find in and old used car weighing you down. we also found 6 used disposable razors. poor prelude
oh, and this is definately going in our forsale thread that we are making, so look it up in that forum and make me an offer. don't low ball me on this shoe damn it! it's one of a kind. i mean, really...there was only one of it's kind in the back of the car.
