I know on some cars all you have to do is run a capacitor on the harness and the sound would turn off while the SRS system would still function correctly minus the side a/b. I haven't seen any side airbags integrated on most of the after market seats. Some cars come with Recaros from the factory have side airbags. You would lose the side airbags if you run after market seats that do not have side airbags. I have Sparco seats that I have not installed yet, still figuring out which capacitor to run.

My question is:

Is it still legal if you're removing factory safety equipment?

For a track only car, sure, you can.

But I know people that have deleted the airbag, etc. in the old hatches do so at risking a ticket, and if someone is injured in an accident, charges and lawsuits.

I'd check up on that before you did anything.

Why do you want to ride around in your street car with a harness?

Especially since the stock seats in the SI are pretty damn good to begin with.
I think aftermarket seats in a street car looks so stupid. Thats really the only reason people buy them; because they think they look cool. I think the look horrible.

You have a side airbag in your seat. You remove said seat and replace with aftermarket seats. What did you do? Removed an airbag, right?

Also, the passenger side seat has a weight sensor so that the airbags go off when a passenger is in the car. No weight sensor? No passenger side airbags (not just the one in the seat you remove to put in aftermarket seats)

So, you want do to this because you like the look..... Have you ever driven a car with a harness? It's hard to look behind you and check your blindspots because you're strapped in. Need your wallet out of your pocket at a drive thru? good luck. Need to reach over for something in the rear seat? not happening.

I understand you like the look. The look of race parts in a basemodel economy sedan. Doesn't that sound a little bit silly to you?

I want to swap my driver for a Status or Recaro but I honestly dont care about the airbags not working, it would be for the track anyway.

And as far as removing factory safety equipment, you are not required to have an airbag, but your factory seatbelt and buckle must still function even if you have an aftermarket harness and seat.

I think he's trying to get the question across not get a full on high school lecture on SRS safety on public roads. He's must have the money to do it or else he wouldnt be asking.

Honestly dude, just do what you want. I have a bucket seat and a harness in my daily car and I feel way more secure in that then the shitty ol stock seatbelt. As long as its FIA approved then you shouldnt have a problem with anything. I dont know much about the 06-08 Civics and the whole SRS system but I know there is a way to trick the system to work with aftermarket seat's and harness' but, you wont have side airbags.

Some states dont even check for SRS function when you go though inspection if you do have inspection.

Goodluck with it, keep us updated with the progress
Dont build your car for honda-tech. Build it for yourself.

EDIT: You guys banging on his shouldn't go into the Appearance/Cosmetic section then. Most of the big dawgs have seats/harness', and they dont track there cars

It's funny you put these statements together. Don't build for Honda Tech, but look in the appearance forum and see that all the "big dawgs" have seats/harnesses. Just a little contradictory aren't we?

I guess at 17-18 'the look' is still a big deal....

A) if you read my question you would see that I asked how I can put a seat in WITH the airbags still activated.
B) I'm not planning on getting an aftermarket seat for the passenger side so that's out of the question
C) yes I have driven a type r with recaros and takatas and I felt comfortable and
more secure.
D) why would I worry about reaching my pocket that wouldn't change my mind on buying a seat not to mention I dont go to drive throughs or use my back pockets
E) my car stays MINT I dont keep **** in my backseat to worry about having to grab. Which again wouldnt change my mind

You clealry have no intention on answering my question. I didn't ask opinions on if I should get a seat or not I asked HOW I can to about putting one in without canceling out the airbags.

If you like the look of harnesses that much, cut a hole in your seat and run the harness through there. It's not like you care if the damn thing is fuctional. It just has to look cute.

What IT GUY said is very true.
I remember you being the girl in here, every couple weeks asking about a new way to fix her car, after she ran into her sister's car, or hit a truck, etc. You need to practice looking in your mirror in normal seats (with normal belts) before you drive around, not being able to move to loook in your blind spots, mirrors, etc.

You should put the seats in if you want. It is your car.

I told you that removing the seat = removing the airbag in the seat. This means it's not possible to have an aftermarket seat retain the funtionality of all of the airbags that came with your car. You seem to keep ignoring that and keep asking "about putting one in without canceling out the airbags" Accept that you won't keep all of your airbags and go from there. I wish I had some info on what is needed to keep the SRS light from coming on or the seatbelt from 'dinging' The simple method of course it to just plug the seatbelt in (even if it's just the plug part from a junkyard car) Beyond that, there are options like resistors that 24boosted mentioned. That'll take considerably more knowledge than plugging in a dummy seatbelt though and you could potentially screw things up fairly easily.

I'm not telling you that you shouldn't put the seats in, I just want you to consider the reality of it and not just how cool it'll look. For me (read: my opinion) harnesses in a daily driver are not fun. They restrict motion if worn correctly (all of my examples about reaching things in your pockets and in the car are obviously not issues to you and that's fine)

You seem pretty set on putting in a seat and a harness. If you can live with (it seems like you can) then go for it. Post pics when you're done. Good luck
