you checked the VTEC pin and it's good... what exactly did you check?
did it have 12V on it when VTEC should be active?

someone checked your wiring, what did they check? did they ohm meter it out to make sure that the VTEC solinoid wire runs all the way to the ECU?

which ECU are you using?
chipped? stock P72?
if chipped was VTEC added? (incorrect VTEC parts can cause this CEL)

"gasket had metal shavings"
WHY did it have metal shavings in it?
there shouldn't be any...

which harness are you using?? did you guys run your own vtec wiring??? check the ground on the vtec solenoid...and i doubt that it's the oil pump...if it is your oil pressure light should be on..

that picture will show you the vtec oil pressure sensor-
make sure that wire is hooked up, via a multimeter- it could be torn at a part or something

also, using a factory manual, make sure that its wired into the ecu properly

if thats not working, there might be a serious issue with the motor, where its not getting enough oil pressure, but i highly doubt that- a autometer oil pressure gauge would show you tho-

yea i think its the stock harness and we ran our own wires around the solenoide to the ecu we checked the ground it good theres is no oil light so then the oil presser should be good then i guess. thanks man

if you have metal shavings anywhere in your system, drain your oil, and do an oil and filter change. if there is metal shavings inside your engine, you have worse problems than not hitting vtec.

prolly oil pump failure, which led to low oil pressure, which in turn spun a bearing, which then lead to metal shavings in the oil

Id have a competant mechanic drop the oil pan, and inspect further-
Good luck!
