Default Help with B18B1 for '87 CRX HF

I bought a 87 crx hf 5spd manual trans and i want to swap out the d15 (carb. = lame) and tranny, for a b18b1 w/ S80/Y80 transmission. This is going to be my 1st swap (although my friend is going to help) and I really want to do it right. I'm not set on a b18b1, but i would add boost (T3 garrett kit), and have hondata S200/S300 with that as well. Those are basic concepts.. there are plenty more mods I have thought of to help this too.

With that being said.. I have a couple questions i hope you guys could answer for me (for now.. lol)

- would the stock CV joints break under the increased power and torque? and would there be an effective way to fixing that?
- how much suspension and stability work would probably need done, to support the bigger engine?
- does this sound like a reasonable idea/project?
- what would be an expected 1/4 mile time?

Thanks for your help!

This swap is expensive only if you have to pay someone to do it for you.

no suspension work necessary, although i would suggest a coilover kit and stiffer springs in the rear, and probably some tokico illuminas..

you wont be using stock cv joints to get a b18 in that car anyway.... if you plan on huge power potential see if you can get ahold of raxles.com and get them to spin some special axles to your needs.... they also offer axles for the b swap, although i wouldnt trust them over maybe 300hp

definatelly a reasonable idea, i am running a b16 in my formerly automatic dx right now. and have a b18a1 block to build up in the garage for an lsvtec beast

1/4 mile time on a stock b18b1 would probably be around 14.5-15.5 depending on tires, suspension ect throw on a vtec head and a balanced rotating *** and your pulling 13's easy

for hondata you would need to convert to obd1.... so you have a wiring nightmare ahead, but take your time and do your research and you'll make it through it. it was tough to figure out the wiring for the b16 and its obd0.... you could also wire everything like you were going obd0 and just use an ecu jumper harness

good luck

I think that you should start with another platform if the HF is in running/driving condition, because as far as first gen HFs go they can go for some bread, and at 50+ mpg I don't see how you'd want to swap it.
