b17a1 keep or trash
hi im restoring an old 1992 gsr. i was thinking of just rebuilding the original b17 to keep the car what it is, a rare gsr, not to many left. but a lot of people tell me to put in a b18. what do you think
some more background i plan to use the car as a daily driver and a weekend solo2 racer. so no turbo, just a cam-ed stronger high rev vteck. that was the idea.

KEEP the B17. you can easily make that blacksheep into a very decent daily driver/weekend warrior with some mild engine work. not to mention the tranny... best cable tranny out there if you ask me.... replace sycnros and drop in an LSD...
if take out the B17 and you have a normal DA integra... keep that DBs heart intact! good luck with the project.

ya the trans is the best part
but if i was to put in a b18 i thought it would be fun to but the b17 in an old 74 cvcc if i could find one these days. my mom had one. that was the car that got me into honda's.

UUUUMMMMMMMMMM.....wat? No B motor can zing to 9500 rpm stock. And unless you are an engineer at Spoon Sports racing R&D, then forget about 11500 rpm.
Wait....are you talking about compression ratios? 9.5:1 and 11.5:1?

IMO thats one of the underdog motors with alot of potential yet people dont see it, do a mild build on it and you will be happy and your car will still be a rare gsr

Do not build a crvtec or ls/vtec with the b17 head like this dude keeps insisting. You have one of the rarest integras made and the motor and tranny is still in decent condidtion, the extra 10-20 lbs or torque and $2k-3k it costs to build the crvtec or lsvtec isn't worth it at at all. Just keep the b17 and build it mildly (Itr pistons, Itr intake manifold, Header, Exhaust, Valves & Springs, Stage 1 Clutch, New synchros, Flywheel, Cams and cam gears, etc, and a tune)
i agree with karma 100%! keep that b17 and do what he suggested and you will be very happy with your very rare motor!! i'd kill to get one of those motors....ok, maybe not, but you get my point.

This is what I've done...
B17 with CTR internals
Now I know its not fastest, but I know its one of the rarest honda's around...
Keep it, just to be different...
92-93 GSR + Org. B17 + GSR YS1 tanny = Rare (in black = ultra rare)

the trans is just finished the i put a b18 dc header, aem intk, all aem fuel system, on it already just has 200k+ miles no smoke yet. but the 17 is out to fix rust prob bec i live in Pa. dam salt. i think am going to keep it in unless someone has a "clean 1974 cvcc" to put it in. that would be an ultimate sleeper.

why put a b20 just because its cheap and deal with the smog issue ... not worth the trouble IMO.

OP, IMHO you shouldn't tear apart your B17 to make a frank motor. If you end up destroying the block then that's a different thing.

The motor's already there, why waste your money for one if the original motor doesn't have a single, major problem?
Keep it and rebuild it. Don't listen to those "people" who told you to buy a C1.

what u talkin about.B-series all you need to do to hit 9.5 rev is to bore it out to 2.0 with other upgades and standalone piggy back.i seen this happen on my big bro fullybuilt gsr.yeah,na/b17a with basic bolt-on cams/intake/exhaust/headers/manifold/throttle body vtec control with some nice tune.u should hit 12flat at sea level all day.maybe high 11's with slicks.u be sorry/shame, if u trash that race-bred b17a.gl on the build
