Exactly which civic do you have, year, model...then we'll help you out.
You should have O2 sensors.

 

Yeah you would need a O2 sensor unless you are running some kind of setup that overrides this on your ecu which is unlikely.

The O2 sensor on Hondas are usually attached somewhere on your exhaust manifold.

OBDI cars have one and OBDII cars have 2.

 

but my 97 civic sir b16a6 does not come with a sensor from the factory

hmmm?? shouldn't a car have at least 1 O2S
