Default newbie stick shift question

hi i just got a rsx type-s 3 days ago, i'm a newbie at stick shift, my question is

today i left my car in first gear and pulled ebrake after i parked, but being the newbie that i am, when i started the car later.. i pressed the clutch and forgot to shift to neutral.. i let my clutch out and the car jumped forward and stalled..

i was wondering if doing that once or twice will cause any big damage?? or is it just another stall..

thanks

Its not really bad, but just try to remember " you have it in 1st" when you start it.. hehehe. Press the clutch and put it back to neutral and you sould be safe. Also. enjoy your new car and have fun, but becareful 3rd to 4th has had some problems, the main one being a mis-shift. so be very careful and once again congradulations. Good Luck

why do ya think there are so many mis-shifts in the new rsx ? is it cause of the cable shifter....its kinda of an old design...my old 81 civic has a cable actauted shifter i hate the way it feels...like its not connected, and sometimes you dont know what stupid gear your in ......J/W

I've torn apart and rebuilt an RSX-S, including replacing the whole shifter assembly, and I don't know why everyone whines about it. If you're not a retard, you won't slam the Goddamn shifter into 2nd from 3rd at high rpms. The cable shifter feels fine and it didn't seem to keep me from running a 14.5 with just AEM CAI and a GReddy EVO exhaust...soooo...you people should stop complaining.

Don't stall your car. If your first stick is a brand new sportscar and you **** it up, well, it's somebody's fault...mostly yours for not learning stick on a **** vehicle before getting your 23k gem.

That's why putting a remote start in a manual car is illegal.. if you do what the newbie did (It's okay newbie..) and then you press the remote start the car will leap forward and in many incidents the car was parked in front of a store and it went right through causing much damage and even resulting in death for innocent bystanders.. I know this b/c my family owns an installation shop for car alarms and sound systems and ****.. on many occasions I've tried to tell the installers to install it and I'd be very careful.. but they refused, if I do what the newbie did, the insurance won't cover it and the installer will get his liscense taken away, and a whole bunch of other ****.. sorry bout the long post.. just be careful..

my question wasn't about just normal stalls, i don't stall at all when i drive, my problem was having something on my mind and starting the car in 1st gear and letting it jump forward and stall.. i hope that jump forward part doesn't hurt the car cuz i had my ebrake on and it kept the car from going far.. but still it was a big jolt...

Remote start in a 5 spd isn't illegal. Just hard to make it work safely. A little company called JTI makes a 5 spd remote start system that is the ish. Just for the future park in neutral and use the e-brake thats what its there for. What state do you live in that minimum wage making installers get licenses?

I don't think the jolt is any good for the car. I've done it twice myself, it's due to my mind on other things when getting into the car. Just be glad that you didn't park in front of a wall.

Clifford also has autostarts for 5sp, in fact a friend of mine has it on his ITR. The alarm checks if the car is in gear when it is activated. It's not brain sugery and it's definetly not illegal.

i just put my car in neutral and use the e-brake. unless you park on a hill (or steep driveway) there's really no need to put it in gear. that or i'm just lazy.

Leaving it in neutral is not safe.
Leaving it in gear is much safer, as your car wont roll away if you forget the e-brake, or if the e-brake fails.

How many people have you heard of the ebrake failing on? You won't forget the brake if you get in the habit and aren't an F'ing moron(not calling you one).

my friend with his 95 accord EX and my Chevy S10 pickup both had spontaneous failures of the emergency brake. His rolled out into the street and I caught mine as it was happening. If you live somewhere hilly or wet/snowy where your components can rust out or loosen because of humidity, keep it in gear and don't be a huge ******* dumbass when you start your car. driving takes attention...pay some.

Well for the most part I leave my car in neutral and put the e-brake on, but im considering putting it in first. A while back I parked my car in my drive way late at night, and in the morning my dad told me my car was in the street. Not a lot but it rolled out. I guess I forgot to pull the brake all the way or it failed.

The latest time was when my friend borrowed my car and he parked it. He didnt put the brake all the way up and my car drifted back slowly and rolled into my bro's type R. Both car's are fine, no dents or scratches or anything. Guess my car went back very slow, thank God. So after this I might be putting my car in first from now on..
