D16y7+D16y8 Head... obd0 ecu and harness... help me out
So like the title says I'm going to be putting a y8 head on my y7 that is currently in my 91 Si... I used the obd0 Si ECU,Harness, and Intake manifold when I did the swap... so now what are my options for putting this head on? and wich is easiest?? Thanks for any and all input!
WEll to help you out a little bit but to tell you the truth never really messed with the y8 or y7 motors. First they never made a OBD0 vtec ecu for a SOHC so you can either run vtec through a Vtec controller or jump the car over to ODB-1 and run a p28 92-95 ECU. I would go the OBD1 route due to it being an easier install and later allowing you to tune to a better standard. You will need the Y8 distributor because I dont think the Z6 distributor will work but the stock A6 fits also I believe. Thats a little confusing haha but you get the idea. You will need OBD-1 injectors distributor ECU and a jumper harness for this swap. good luck and ask for any thing else
get a boomslang or rywire harness. i used a boomslang, and it was great. i heard rywire's is good, but i dont have experience with them
u can use the obd0 distributor and can put vtec on a toggle switch. the trick with the dizzy is that u have to cut a notch out of the right side of the top ear so that u can put bolt there to hold the dizzy inplace. u will also need to advance it quite a bit (turn the dizzy towards the firewall) but u can run it that way untill u have the money to do the obd1 conversion or just to make sure the engine runs. also be sure to use ur obd0 injectors if using the obd0 ecu and if u do the obd1 conversion and wish to use the newer injectors u will need to remove ur injector resistor box. to run vtec on a switch is easy, just get a toggle switch from the auto parts store, make sure its one that is easy to use (meaning not the ones with the stupid flip up saftey cover, lol) find a mounting location that will be easy to flip the switch while driving. just run a wire from the switch to the vtec solenoid (single wire, grey plug next to the dizzy) and a wire from the switch to an open slot on ur under dash fuse box that either has power constant or when the key is in the on position. once its all hooked up test it by fliping the switch with the car idling, the rpms should drop and the car seem like it wants to die. then just drive it and flip the switch around 5,000rpm and enjoy vtec
oke i just went threw that thing that ur doing lol converted a obd2 down to obd1 lol do thiss get a dizzy off a eney nonvtec 92 to 95 civic the dizzy model #is td-41 thats one works with the y8 head well u just jumper convert the dizzy to obd0 by geting a obd0 to obd1 jumper for the dizzy goes for about 10$ i got the diagram for it so i can send u it if u pm me and if ur useing a obd0 computer u need to find a ps9 ecu out of a 91 civic ex auto to make the one wire vtec work or elts u need a stock pm6 and got to use the ac relay to activate vtec meaning ur ac will need some moding and relays to work the thing i whould recomend is going obd1 but if u need to use a ps9 out of a 91 civic ex if u go the obd1 rought find a z6 or a 5 speed y8 mani with a non throttle body mounted icv wire wire it up and ur ready to go
im runing the same setup i use a obd1 alternator a obd1 dizzy the td41 non tec dizzy and used a obd1 intake manifold off a z6 only need to mod some coolent return lines or just add one to the main coolent pipe

you can use a ps9, pm6, pr4 or pm7 for vtec with TE (or bre). the ps9 uses the auto lockup solenoid, were the others would use the ac circuit/relay (like mario_pic said above)...the only thing is you dont have dual map support. use this with the obd0 distributor (which directly bolts to the y8 head...if i remember correctly)...
or you can go with an obd1 ecu, conversion harness and use the obd2 distributor...

Im might be getting a fully D16z6 motor thats blown up (with dizzy, intake manifold with injectors, fuel rail,ect... alternator) it has like 180k on it and the guy who had it beat the living **** out of it and I guess his drain plug magically fell out and it was drivin on no oil so i wouldnt be using the motor or head... So if I had the full engine harness and ecu would that be all i need?? would that completely switch the car to obd1 and have vtec?
stay with your harness, then add the wires for the solenoid and oil pressure sensor.
All you need for obd1 is the distributor, obd1 ecu, obd0-obd1 conversion harness

it bolts up but its off by one fire point i tryed it take ur dizzy cover off and compair the y8 to the obd0 dizzy and ull see what i mean
y8 mini makes more power with na and if u pop some dohc zc pistons in there wow it will fly like my bad boy
i whould recoment replaceing ur arms and bearings on the motor if u use dohc zc pistons and if u want a good valve job

mario, thats why i said he would need to notch the dizzy for it to run correctly. i had a y8 in my 90 hatch back in 01.... there was no obd0-1 conversion harness that i had ever seen back then, just had to figure it out with the obd-0 stuff
Alright.... so im getting a p28 and a D16z6 distributor probably today... After i get this what else will I need?? the obd0-obd1 conversion harness?? and will i have to do anything to this dizzy to make it work?? thanks
boomslang.us FTW....i have their OBD0-OBD1 conversion harness and its flawless w/ my p28....running a y8 in an 89 rex....running a z6 dizzy wired it all up and she's a lil more fun.
good luck.
good luck.
