Can you get in trouble with the law if they pop your hood and they find no vin# on your tranny? cause i was reading this one article and it said something about its stolen they would think and there gonna smash the car.

Only trannies from the North American market came with VIN plates. Japanese, as well as other markets, did not have VIN plates on their trannies. Does your tranny look like the plate was grinded off?

Japanese trannies don't have the plate, just two holes. I don't know about laws in CA regarding this though.

94 and 95 trannys have no vin number either. Theres a serial number but thats just a sticker and wears off easily with time.

usually won't get busted for not having a vin number on the tranny in california. if they have reason to doubt you... i.e. rivets ground/drilled off of tranny.. then i'd avoid installing that tranny. if you have a jdm tranny just carry a bill of sale around with you.

I concur, same with motors. If it's OBD2-era, it will have a VIN on it.. if not, a sticker.. if it's still on.
The '94 B18B i bought ( guy sold it to me as a 2000 ) didn't have a VIN and i learned the hard way... that's how i knew.
