What's everyone think of manifold "personalization"? Mani I made for a guy inside.
I make many manifolds for guys locally, and recently came upon a need to identify my mani's from other companies. For about three months I've been selling alot of mani's locally with personalized dogtags which show my company name, as well as one personal line for the owner as an option.
Just was wondering what everyone thought about the idea. I posted the mani once before, but forgot to ask what everyone thought specifically about it? It's hard to seperate yourself from all the other mani options out there, so I felt it was something that'd seperate me from the rest.
I like it...you?

I don't like it. But I'm OCD, and dissymmetry irks me. Plus the tack welds look a bit corny because the tag isn't perfectly form-fitted and you can see under it...
Personally, and I know this might not "separate" you as much as you want, but I think stamping/laser etching your logo into the head flange is the way to go. It's right there in the middle - nice and symmetrical! Or maybe weld a small bridge between runners 2 and 3 with the logo on it.

pretty good idea for sure- I think that if all the manifold builders were to put a serial number on the collectors outside, that way you could just reference the number to find out the manifold information. the nice thing would be theft issues- easy to tell if its a stolen manifold.
not bad idea SFP tagged their manifolds too.....its ok i dont have a prob with it. Now question do u offer the customers an option if they didnt want the tag? or pretty much standard?

The point of this style tag was to do something that is somewhat original. If he goes with the laser etched head flange, then that would be just another run-of-the-mill turbo manifold. Its hard to do something to get noticed these days as a fabricator. I think that if you can produce a good product and label it in a different way, its just another chance that someone will take note of it and remember your name.

Well, at least I have one guy on my side here...lol.
For real though...thanks for all the comments..good or bad.
Schister...move is about finished, but still no TIG wired in
. The guy that is supposed to wire it for me is busy I suppose, and it's certainly not helping my timeline on a couple of mani's. Soon I should be back on track though.

I would like it a lot more if you committed to making a full bead all the way around the tag. I know that seems unnecessary and more time consuming, but it'll give a MUCH better "finished" appearance. Just look at the Tony1 catch-can; he welds on that gigantic unnecessary block of aluminum that has "T1 Race" engraved in it and it looks amazing. Everyone eats those things up. This is honda-tech after all - we love us some TIG beads.
Well, let me tell you, welding something damn near razor thin, to something with a wall thickness of .100+....it ain't easy..lol. Just heat NEAR that dog tag blows it apart. Took me a few to get good at tacking them even to be honest.

Etching the flange would also cost more and that means that he would have to raise the price per manifold all because someones cares about the "bling factor" , however i would still plce a little stamp or etching somewhere just incase some one grinds or cuts off the "tag" so the manifold can be identified as one of yours...just my thoughts tho

Isn't "someone" really everyone? Let's face it - everyone loves bling.

Lol, who the f*ck cares if it improves performance? This isn't HMT. H-t people definitely care about aesthetics. Show us a MIG weld and you'll be extradited to HMT.

i dig it, you don't see the tag deal too much in the import world...most domestic header manufacturers do it and i think it looks cheap if it doesn't have it
