Default JRSC Question... ( Bypass valve )

I bought a used kit from someone here on H-T.

The kit was for the most part complete, but unfortunately missing a few very vital parts.

In an effort to save a little bit of money from ordering parts individually from JR, can i use a BOV instead of the JR Diaphragm bypass valve?

I bought a turbo kit a long time ago, and never installed it, but i still have the BOV.

The manifold is modified for a intercooler, so can i just plug where the JR bypass goes, and run the bov off part of the charge piping near the throttle body similar to a turbo setup?

thanks for any replys.

If it is modified for an intercooler, it is an air/water intercooler, unless it is some weird custom setup that we haven't seen before. you won't have any charge piping.

you pretty much have to use the bypass valve.

you can try to get this one here for cheaper than what JR charges for theirs. they look identical. it is the one on the left, Part No. 19-15-01-000.

it looks like its modified for a air/air intercooler like a FMIC or TMIC. kinda funky. ill try and take some pictures tonight.

thanks for the link by the way.

hypothetically speaking; not sure if i spelled that right, but whatever, would it be possible to use said BOV if i was to use a FMIC?

Edit : Pictures.

Wow, that's unique.

Since I don't have a turbo I'm not sure how exactly a blowoff valve works. what you need is a valve that is open under vacuum and closed under no vacuum/pressure. If that is what a BOV does then yes you can use it on the charge piping and put a blockoff plate on that round hole that you have with the three bolts in there.

Otherwise, get a bypass valve and that will bolt up to that hole. Note if you block off the hole here, you'll also need to block off the corresponding hole on the supercharger, since the bypass valve recirculates the excess air back into the intake tract pre-blower.

Personally though, I would just get the bypass valve. Having a BOV open to the atmosphere may cause weird issues with air getting in/out of the charge piping that the throttle body has no control over.

yeah, that makes sense. i was just wondering if it was an option. the bypass is 200+ dollars through JR. so i was just seeing if i could utilize something that i have access too. thanks for the response, ill just get the bypass and run it like i should.

the bov just vents the excess boost when the throttle body closes. i dont think vacuum has anything to do with it. i could be wrong.

thanks

I don't think a blowoff valve will work with that. But if you look at kits that JR has for a miata they have a charge pipe coming off it into the intake manafold and it still has the divertervalve to release the presure instead of a blowoff valve to relieve the pressure.

The bypass is meant to bypass air 100% if needed. The BOV is just meant to bypass excess pressure - only from the bottom of the valve. You'd really have to rig it to work right. Even with a cut/weak spring, the BOV may not work right.

As for that manifold, that's a slick idea. It could have been done a little better, but for ingenuity!

subscribed cuz I want to know what that mod to the JRSC is. I'm assuming from pics and your post that it's a custom pipe to blow air from a FMIC past the manifold to cool it down. right?
