Default Question about the 08 Si

I got my Si in February. Now, I've been noticing when I shift from 3rd to 4th and vice versa that it kinda just slides. It's not popping like I've read about, but it just feels weird to me. Definetly not even close to being as tight as the other gears. You bearly have to touch it to shift into those 2 gears. I took it to the dealership and told them, and he test drove it and said there was nothing he noticed. Of course they are gonna tell me that I'm sure.. I'm a girl and the car is brand new. Anyhow, I had a Civic EX before and the gears didn't feel like that. So my question is, is it normal on the Si for the gear to slide? Curious if I should be concerned before I'd take it to get a 2nd opinion.

just wait for the 3rd gear to pop out and then take it back to the dealer to get it fixed. if they cant duplicate the problem right now they wont do anything

dont wait till third gear pops out to get checked. thats like saying "dont fix your oil leak until you run out of oil" but your problem doesnt sound bad AT ALL. so many people with 06+ Si's have problems with going into third gear... it either sticks and wont go in all the way... it grinds going into gear... or it pops out while its in. soooo, what can be done to fix that is change the tranny fluid with some synthetic fluid. a little thicker, preferably one that is good for the synchronizers. pennzoil has a fluid called "synchromesh" personally i put some "royal purple synchroguard" manual tranny fluid and that third gear grind feels a little smoother. but in your case consider your "problem" a good one. its better than grinding. my first to second is exactly like your third to fourth and i have not had a single problem and i got 12k miles on her.

I hate to say it, but they were probably laughing at the fact that someone brought their car in because the gears were too EASY to get into. When they start becoming HARD to engage, then bring it in.

My third gears is a little funny aswell. I would not call it a grind but, it deff. does not go in as smooth as the rest of the gears. On occasion my second gear does the same. Should I waste my time going to the dealer? or go and get Synthetic?

ok, honestly i bought my 08 mugen si back in november and i've never had problems with it and to tell u the truth a civic ex tranny and a si tranny is gonna feel really different from each other i think that all the people with 08 si's who has problems with their trannys just don't know how to drive because the 06 and 07 problems have been fixed so if anyone out there not satisfied then get an american car that'll last u a few years only maybe that'll satisfy ur taste.....thats all i got to say about this tranny issue either u know how to drive it or u don't bottom line...........

OP:

Sounds like the perfect ride for me. Wunna trade cars?

This is what i've been bitching about for weeks now, at least on H-T. I've hated the LACK of "sliding" on the Si i got my 08 back in Oct. and am dying for a solution. I've tried a SS and cable bushings, but still no major improvements.

I'd rather not pop my shoulder out trying to shift.

Have you ever considered that something may be wrong with your tranny, causing it to be as stiff as you describe? I agree that my tranny is kinda stiff, but it is smooth at the same time (never really had a problem with it sliding in...other than the infrequent 3rd gear grind), and the situation you describe in this, and the other threads, seems to point to a tranny that is working correctly.
