how do i know if my b18b1 is obd2 or 1?like i have a obd2 ls in my car now..
and its valve cover looks different from the one i just bought.its has ridges compared to smooth.
the guy said it was a obd2...buit im not sure..is there any quick check i can do?
got the serial for the block...don t know if it matters..but the head says pr4?

Believe it or not the OBD type has more to do with what ECU, injectors, distributor, etc. more so than the actual year of the engine.
Does your distributor have one plug or two? One plug would be an OBD2 distributor, which likely means your engine is currently OBD2. Two plugs would be OBD1 (provided they are grey plugs)
We really need more info in order to better help you.
What year, make, model is your car?
Lastly the year is stamped on your engine on the cylinder head above the header/exhaust ports. It will read 9/8 if it's a 98 engine, 9/4 if it's a 1994 engine, etc. etc.

BTW the valvecovers are easily changed. The older ones can be swapped out foe the smoother ones with the PCV valve stuck in them.

lets see...i bought it bare...only emptyblock...crank out pistons rodetc..
head off the block but assembled...no dizzy,no injectors,nothing.
but i have a complete obd2 ls in my 97 civic now...so could i juts use my obd2 stuff
on that motor even if its obd1?

no just if its obd2?cuz im runnig a p75 in my car now...
so i just wanna keep it emisssion safe....so basicaly i dont want a check engine light and stuff like that.
