Default B18b engine question

How would you know what generation a B18b engine is? I recently saw a post about this last week, but I can't find it anymore. Also when did they start making B18b engines? I am about to buy one, but I wanted to make sure he was telling me the truth about the year of the engine. Thanks

Or the distributor plug, or the evap purge solenoid. OBD-I B-series has 2 plugs at the distributor, OBD-II has 1 big one.

Well someone told me that you can read the number under the "B18b" and it en-codes to a generation. Anyone know about this? Thanks to everyone else for helpin' out

No, but you can read the date stamp on the head... right above the exhaust ports.
