Default Replacing stock cat

A few months ago while I was out driving the CEL on my 03 EP3 came on so I stopped at the nearest Honda dealer and had them take a look. The tech diagnosed that my catalytic converter was below threshhold and would need replacing soon. The service rep quoted me at about $1400 for the job. Well since the car was running just fine and I live in a county where emissions are not required I was not about to drop that kind of money. Well now I am looking to sell my EP3 and would like to get this taken care of so it is easier to sell.

Can anyone suggest a site or shop that I can order a OEM or aftermarket cat that I can replace my stock one with? Preferably the cheapest possible that will do the job. I am not looking for anything hi-performance, just need a simple replacement to keep the CEL from coming on so I can sell the car.

Any suggestions would be great. TIA!

I would think just replacing the catalytic converter would be the solution. I'm not sure why you got quoted for a $1400 job.

Because the dealers always charge up the butt for work done. Thanks for the link.

And the fact that they are charging the list price for a new cat $1044.20. I would sell you mine, but it is buried in a storage building somewhere.

Wowsers, I can't believe a stock cat was going to cost you that much...!

Anyways, are you sure that its not something else apart from the cat? ie. faulty sensor? I've heard a lot of cases where sensors need to be replaced but haven't come accross the cat converter needing to be replaced yet.
