After I heard this place was hiring, I gave it a shot... http://www.thermex-thermatron.com
They had 25 applicants and only hired two. I was one. They are verrrry strict. I am super pumped, I hope I maybe it as a full perm. hire after 90 days. I start this monday. M-F 40-50 hours a week, first shift
)
I will double what I make now as the pay is outstanding to start. Around $18-21 per hour starting and upwards to $28-32 after 2 years if you excel well.
This will help me out SOOO much.
It is going to be soo cool and help me greatly in life. FInally, a pay off.
It is mainly welding 1/8th to 1/4 inch aluminum strictly with some work with grinders, saws, presses, and benders.
Wish me luck!

Congrats on your new job, sounds like it's going to work out very well for you. I work for an aerospace company welding thin-gauged material also. Different types of alloys and I don't feel they pay me well lol.

This place HIGHLY depends on i DO NOT let the weld saturate to the other side. There can be NO burn through or else it [freak]s up the waves and frequencies inside the unit. grr
Congrats man
I'm on my 3rd welding/fab job and making $7 more an hour than I was 2 years ago. It's pretty rewarding to take something as fun and self motivating as welding and then go make a living doing it.

The guy I learned how to TIG from worked in a place just like this. They built vacuum containers and radio equipment for NASA, US Govt and Military. Very strict on quality but you know what you're doing so just take your time until your comfy there.

Congrats. I've been welding professionally(as in for a job not as a hobby) for about 2 months now and I started out a $18 dollars. Went from just strictly metal fab no welding($15/hr started at $12.65 8months before that) to welder($18/hr). The original job posting for my job was for welder training to be become a welder even though i already knew how, self taught. 100 people applied within my work 16 people chosen, me being one of them. I got paid my 40hrs/ week wages plus they paid for 3 actual courses we took a the local tech. school for 6 weeks(7am-3pm) 5 days a week. Basically paid me just to go to school for 6 weeks without having to go to work at all. Learned a lot of more technical terms and why you do certain things so it definately helped me a lot. Company is Pierce Manufacturing in my signature if anyone wants to know. They are rediculously rich company and was supposed to be featured in ultimate factories on national geographic but I think the show might have been cancelled.
GL to you on the new job.

i'm not 100% on what he's trying to say but i don't think he needs to backpurge if he doesn't want the weld to burn through. Not saying your wrong just throwing it out there.

no backpurging silly asses. its gotta be a very FAST weld to keep the weld from coming through the other side. If it does, its bad, it screws up the machine somehow.
thts sick mang, i need to go get some formal TIG trainging and a nice TIG wleder and start my life of super stardom.lol
Just make sure u show some motivation, like getting there early, keeping ur area clean, mainly the things i dont do, and ull be good.

That is a nice pay scale. I've been welding for 8 months at http://www.apachestainless.com and the pay is only $13 almost $14. I'll be moving to FL in Sept and am not sure if I'm going to stick with welding or branch off for a little while.

Where I work, all the welders(mig) are hooked up to a monitor that will stop you and need to be reset if your stick out is too far or too short.
Everything we weld is thin and let me tell you it gets old.
It's not too bad for the most part but when there are difficult welds it can be annoying.
When it's hard to reach and hard to see because of the jigs welding fast makes a bigger difference than you think.
