5th Gen: Speaker Depths?
Hey Guys,
I'm in the process of shopping for new components for my 99 Prelude.
Crutchfield says that 6.5" are up front and 6x9's in the rear.
One person in the "Audio/Video" section said that hardly any 6.5's will fit. That you will have to get 5.25's and use adapters.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm trying to decide which components to get, but I want to make sure I get something that will fit.
Does anyone know the exact depth of the front speakers? I really didn't want to pull the door panel off just to measure the depth, but I will if need be.
Thanks,
Josh B.

the front 6.5s are very easy to take out. the grill pops right off and then it is 3 screws to remove the speaker. no door panel to mess with. carefully pull from the bottom front portion of the grill, viola!
even the tweeters can be pulled by removing the door handle screw and surrounding panel... i have new components and never touched the door panel.
also, if you have a dremel, the plastic webbing behind the speaker can be cut out. that will allow a deeper speaker to be mounted.

You might have a problem with the depth as the window rail is right behind the speaker. You can just cut a hold into the speaker cover that will give an extra 2''s but wont look that great. I'm in the process of making a custom lower door panel and a guy I know has a company that might be able to make plastic copies.

I bought Kicker KS6.2 component speakers for my '00 SH. They fit perfectly and sound kick *** with the OEM CD/radio. I paid $199.99 for them in Oct but now they are $149.99.

you had no issues with them making contact with the window rail?
