Want it built for boost? Eagle/Vitara or similar combo with a zex turbo cam and arp head studs and new oem headgasket with traction bar, drag radials and stage 2 (or similiar) clutch will yield 400whp or damn near.

Do you want to go road racing or SCCA? I think for SCCA the stock engine will be fine but for full road course racing I wouldn't go turbo unless you can find a way to get rid of the lag your gonna have. I'd think for road racing your gonna want to start by getting the engine to breath better if you haven't already done these, a SOHC V-tec head, a 4-2-1 header, a good intake not an e-bay intake, a good quality cat-back (Greedy my $.02), maybe a cam, Walbro fuel pump, B16 throttle body, a Hondata s100. Take out as much un-needed stuff as possible get the weight down and gearing depending on the length of the road courses your gonna be running. Up here I'd want a taller final drive for the long straits..Just some ideas you can go turbo but you'll need to keep the boost up which is fine. I did some open track days in my STI and I had to keep the RPMs up good thing everybody that was on the track was driving a WRX or STI so we all had the same issue. hey but these are a few thing I would do I am in no way ******* anybody nor am I an expert just my opinion..Good luck

Before you go and try to upgrade your motor, get some track time. Be it auto-x or HPDE.

What exactly are you wanting to do?

There is a lot of information for this topic in the road race forum.

An all-motor D series is a dead end...you'll spend a ton of money, but really wont see very great gains. Using a stock engine and a small turbo setup would be your easy ticket to 220-240whp for under $3k.

All motor rocks! Whats the budget like? Start with basic Intake and Exhaust mod. Followed by cams upgrade and rechipped ecu.
If you want to go further then theres a lot of write up here abt the

YAY! 15HP and no increased area under the curves, just more peak. and you're almost $2k poorer. Or you could have spent that on nicer tires and track time and been far faster.

Where to start? With the FAQ's.

Next, if you're planning on going road racing (lol) grab the rule book for whatever sanctioning body you plan on running with and check what's allowed. Let that be your guide.

The rule book, now that's a good thought...

Yea if ur goin all moter lets say stiffer valve springs high performance cam get hat head milled hard to boost compression. Dnt forget an adjustable cam gear lightweight flywheel shaved and balanced crank, high flow im, cold air intake what else high compression pistons. Plan on savin up a while.

PS: you can get the same power out of a turbo for half the price
