Default Disc Rotors

I want to get some new rotors for my 98 Accord LX and later on down the line swap the rear drums for discs. My question is what do all the plating on the rotors effect? What does the black zinc and gold zinc do for my brakes?

The coating just adds rust protection. Such as around the edges and hub area. Of course the black coating (paint) will add a better protection than the coating. Merely for looks. Especially if you got some nice wheels there and you don't want rust showing....

But I got one of those, they don't last well. But they do help prolong it.
