ever since i bought the car the head has had a tapping or clattering noise at idle, low and high rpms. ive done the valve adjustment twice. once myself, and next by a way more reliable resource ha. the motor was cold, feeler gauges were correct, cylinder order and TDC were right. it won't go away and it's becoming annoying while im trying to save and build this motor. someone mentioned maybe something with a lost motion assembly? its constant and taps with the rpms.

22 - every other 3 or 4 times i go into vtec i will throw a check engine light, code 22. i know its for the vtec pressure valve, but unfortunately i have no idea about that. also the other day possibly because the car wasnt warm enough, vtec cut out at about 7000 or so as if there was a rev limiter there. then wants to cut off while idling after i run the car hard.

The tapping sound, are you sure they aren't the injectors?

 

i can't say i'm sure it's not, but i've heard your injectors will only have that tick if they are aftermarket. even tried the old screwdriver trick and didn't hear much.

 

hey bro,i had the same problem in my da integra,it will be your lma's,they sit in between your springs and valve's,change those ur intake and exhaust side and u shud be sweet

 

i would have to agree. i'd bet its your lost motion assemblies.
