where to mount my prox sensor on a newer civic
ive got the avantguard 5 from clifford on my 07 SI
I had the prox sensor mounted inside the headliner, right above the map light. it did not work well when it was mounted there.....
So i remounted it right inside the center console. not under the console but inside. It works pretty well in there. but is there a better spot i can where i can mount it so it can not been seen?
Thanks

I have mounded proximity sensors under the headliner many many times with very good results, much more uniform coverage around the car, and coverage below the windows.
What was the problem you had when mounted under the headliner?

How is it working now?
The Alpine dual stage "radar" sensor I have in my LS is mounted under the console, just behind the shifter and works perfectly when I set my hand brake up out of the way.
I have found with all proximity sensors you get the best results when sensor is mounted 1/8"-1/4" above the cars floor pan, [or under the cars roof] double sided tape and Velcro pads work well, the sensor should be grounded to that metal surface, or as close to it as possible, the metal surface becomes part of the sensors ant., [ground plane].
This can be a bit of a problem with sensors that use the alarms ground out when armed as their ground, [so they are not on when alarm is not armed] easily fixed with a relay.
No metals of any kind should be above the sensor, nothing like a some change or foil gum or cigarette wrapper to screw up the sensor.
Adjustment is critical to proper performance, the "outside" zone, [warn-away trigger mode] should be adjusted to no more then 12" past the ends of the side mirrors, keep in mind the "radar" is "looking" for mass moving towards or away from it, it's speed and the masses proximity to the sensor, the more mass the object has the farther away the sensor can "see" it.
The inside zone, [full alarming trigger mode] should be adjusted to about 6" inside the windows.
The importent thing to remember is not to have the outside and inside zone boundaries too close together.

yeh thanks for the info.....
its working really well now....
i just dont like how its visible inside the arm console when i open the box.... but when i removed the console.....there was mental everywhere, and i thought that would give off false triggers. the first sensor i had in the roof...it gave off a lot of false triggers; i think the sensor was bad....but then i got a new one and re-moiunted there(headliner)and it didnt work well at all.
but im tryiny to think of a place to remount it.
Im not sure what kind of prox sensors they are, its from the avantguard5.
I had originally had a local shop install this system, later found out it was a crappy job and had a different guy from the place re-do. since then the brain had to be replaced(my horn was coming on when the alarm triggered), tilt has been faulty, and prox sensor had a prob. so ive still been skeptical about this whole alarm in the car

I would put the blame for your problems with that alarm on the installs, I have installed many more then a few of the AvantGuard 5 systems and have found them very dependable, most of the proximity sensors I installed under the headliner are for the AvantGuard 5 systems.
From the install guide...
remote adjustable proximity sensor
The proximity sensor input circuitry has been improved for G5 so the sensor only has power when the alarm is armed. While driving this protects highly sensitive vehicle electronics (i.e. radar detectors) that can be affected by outside interference.
However, this does change the way the sensor is adjusted but will not affect normal operation of the sensor.
locating the proximity sensor
Inside the vehicle's headliner is the optimal mounting location for this sensor and
should always be the first choice. The sensor should face down, centered side to side, with the wire harness exiting toward the front of the vehicle.
I try and install them just in front of the dome light, it has always worked very well.

yeah its mounted inside the arm rest right now. i just dont like how its visible when i open the arm rest. Everything under the console is full of metal.....so i dont want to risk any false triggers...
could there be something wrong with the wiring itself for the prox to be set too sensitive and giving off false triggers under the map light or not work at all?
i might try to reinstall it there again.

Remember there can be nothing metallic in front of the sensor, [above it when mounted in the console or below it when mounted in the head liner.

The sensor should be mounted close to the center of the car, just in front of the dome light, and as mentioned with nothing metallic over the "front/face" of the sensor.

I meant, remove the screws that hold in the map light. and place the prox sensor aan inch away from it towards the sunroof(rear of the car),mount on the roof with double sided tape. having the radar field detecting downwards inside the car.
