Need more info, how many miles on the engine?

Many reasons could cause loss of oil. Rings, valve seals (both result burning the oil). Have you checked for leaks on the usual culprits, valve cover, oil pan, oil filter, drain plug,etc... Do you notice any blueish smoke from the exhaust when you drive, especially under load?

I have never had an H23 so I am not sure if those are prone to drinking oil, my brother had one that did until he swapped the H22 in. When was the last time you did a full tune-up. Plugs, wires, dis. cap, rotor, fuel filter?

Sorry, had to edit, my brain did not read that it was just rebuilt. Did you rebuild it or someone tell you it was rebuilt?

i took it to a mechanic/friend of my fathers who rebuilt it.
i dont like bugging him too much and if its something i can do by myself i'd rather do it.

Look for leaks

Did you make sure you had it completly filled to the correct specifications when you changed the oil? Did you check the level again after you started the engine and the oil circulated. Not saying you don't know how to change your oil, but it is best to know for sure.

It's very possible to burn at least one quart of oil in 2K miles, and maybe it wasn't filled to spec.

Its a little too much missing to be a rare occurance. My H23 barely burnt oil every 3K and my H22 barely burns a half quart an oil change. Its probally seaping out of the oil filter

I had a civic that went through 1qt of oil every week, that was about 300 miles. That was just burning off, not leaking.
Fill it up, make sure you check the oil level when the car is on level ground, and monitor closely. Also look for puffs of blue/gray smoke at startup and at high RPM, and of course, look for puddles on the ground.
Also how where the cylinders honed, if at all?

That was my initial thought since he said it was rebuilt, but he said he didn't have any leaks. I would definitely check the oil filter like acidcrakker said.

How long have you had the engine since it has been rebuilt? Was this the first oil change you have done?

this was my 3rd oil change. there is oil coming from the exhaust and at startup i get a bit of gray smoke.
if i give it some gas it will spit out a bit of oil from my exhaust.

ya i changed the oil correctly.

i've checked and there is absolutely no signs of leaking.

so the oil coming from my exhaust and gray smoke sounds like a leak from my oil filter??

also my driveway is spotless (in front of where my exhaust spits it out)

Lol@ Leaking oil from tail pipe so its your oil filter.

OP you might want to investigate into a leakdown test and compression test. The oil isnt sneaking out of your oil pan at night. Its going somewhere.

I dnt understand especially in the one post about burning 1 qt of oil every 300 miles without smelling it.

Mabey you just need a thicker oil

Op, if your not leaking oil try at the next oil change to use a synthetic. I'm not 100% sure its safe for an aged motor but it was rebuilt you said! The synthetic usually seems to endure high heat better.

Buy the screw in compression tester and test all four of your cylinder's compression. The test takes 10 minutes with a helper, but will answer a few questions or remove some possibiliites at least.

Also, check on left side where intake manifold meats block. Oil will flow down there from above where the valve cover meets the block around the cam cap seal I believe its called (where the vtec solinoid would sit behind the distributor). Oil sometimes leaks out there, dribbles down on your exhaust pipe, and burns off, with out even leaving a puddle (its quite magical )

If you are burning that much Oil already on a rebuilt I'd take it back asap!

just checked everything and no signs of leakage. still the oil seems good to me.

maybe i did happen to screw something up with my previous oil change.

but i still have oil coming from exhaust any thing that can be done for that?

is a bit of white smoke ok at startup??

white smoke at start up is okay. its just condensation that builds up in your exhaust over night. gl with figuring out your problem.

thanks.

ok so if everything checks out and i miscalculated my oil loss (which is possible) would oil spitting out of my exhaust with startup and high rpms be ok? or less then ok ha?

A friend of mine said from the no loss of power and the oil coming from my exhaust it sounds like a piston ring went bad? any thoughts?

Like I said before, find out how the block was honed, if at all, the FRM sleeves have a very specific procedure in order to hone, if not followed, the rings may not have seated properly, which would explain your oil loss.

he said i put synthetic in too early. although i didnt switch it in until about 3k miles. which made the rings not seat. can i just put in regular old oil and see if it works?
