Default California Speedway- SoCal NASA Season Opener

I'm kinda shocked there's no thread on this- so I thought I'd start one- hoping John McNulty, Andy, Paule, Bernardo, Kiwi, or some other Honda Challenge racers would post some schmack. (cause the Honda Challenge yahoo group emails are hilarious- I'm so tempted to post them... lol).

Who's going?

It looks like these guys are already registered:

Gregory Neuwirth Honda Chal 2
Jeff Owen Honda Chal 2
Ryan Flaherty Honda Chal 2
Loren Fancy Honda Chal 4
Manny Coats Honda Chal 4
John Howard Honda Chal 4
George Magnani Honda Chal 4
Angel Velasquez Honda Chal 4
Patrick Heavy Honda Chal 4
Johnny Pag Honda Chal 4
Edik Stepanyan Honda Chal 4
James Landry Honda Chal 4
Gus Heredia Honda Chal 4
Thomas
PauleBigMoneyRacing Honda Chal 4
Benoit Pecqueur Honda Chal 4
Tom Landry Honda Chal 4
Sam Rothscild HC 4 <-*nope, not racing*

Our plan is to film some of the weekend and post it online...
http://www.AUTOCANNON.com

Thanks,
Dennis "oh my god I will be at the racetrack this weekend" Caco

There are usually some late entries as well.

Jack Mardikian will have his civic there, not sure if he's doing SU or H1 though.

I am pretty sure- but I've kinda been outta the loop so...

And I am sure there will be a bunch more late registrations- this was the list I got from Ryan's HC emails a few days ago.

Wish we were joining you guys again this year, but I couldn't fit it into the schedule/budget. Have fun and don't crash!

P.S. - glad to see Sam back in the field ... good luck guys!

That's true -you're right. I forgot- duh.

I'm so used to it being Cal speedway over the past 4 years. When I found out that WS was a points race last month, I think I selectively removed that info from my data banks.

Cal speedway as the opener is just so much more impressive imo.

My bad.

Either way- hope they're having fun out there.

Fri:
H4 – Edo flat ran away from the field before an axle started to go and he backed off to finish third. (Note to H4 challengers, Edo is running 245/45/16s this year.) Manny Coats and James Landry had a great battle for 2nd which Manny ultimately won.
H2 – Sam R ran Ryan F's car for a few laps before it overheated. Jeremy was in the media car, but came in early to use the men's room. Kiwi crossed the finish line (in first, I think) but was well off the pace of the H4 cars. I asked him about that, and he said that he already had the car sold and did not want to risk hurting it before delivering it to the new owner.
H1 – if there was an H1 car, I must have missed it.

Sat:
H4 – Edo got a new axle and flat checked out. An amazing pace and well deserved win. Manny started at the back of the grid and worked his way up to Landry again for what looked to be a repeat performance. But a puff of smoke out his exhaust on the oval signaled the end of his engine and he coasted off the outside of turn three. There was a lot of smoke and a fire truck with him after that. I did not hear about the extent of any damage that may have occurred. Pretty sure Landry got second again followed in third by the guy in the red CRX who's name I can never remember... Pato?
H2 – Flaherty came in after two laps. I think the media car did also (don't remember who was driving). Greg Neuwirth put some serious hurt on the field in the opening laps with an amazing lead. (Causing this reporter to seriously question the weight and classing of the RSX in H2...) He began to slow a few laps later and was eventually passed buy Edo's H4 DA. Greg took the win for H2. No telling whether the late race drop in lap speed was deliberate or from overworked tires. Either way, he did his rookie stickers proud.
H1 – No entries. Noteworthy, however, that Jack Mardikian (sp?) ran his 99 Si H1 car in SPU (I think) and finished ahead of Manny's Viper. Jack's just running the Si in the big-boy class to rack up a few points before his turbo RX7 is back on the track.

EDIT: Old age and a poor memory have failed me: Did Kiwi run the media car on Sat. I think he did. I'm so confused...

I missed the 1140 session. I left with enough time to get to the track by 1100 but traffic before the 91, after the 91, and before the 60 kept me from the track until about noon. I stayed and took some pics for a bit but had to leave to attend a family picnic.

Yeah Kiwi ran the full race in the media car on Sat...he said it felt like it started to lose a little power towards the end of the race...

Some one let it out on HT that edo was running a 16inch wheel and tire last year.

Damn that media car has struggled since it left up here. That thing would run for HOURS AND HOURS on end never having issues!

Going by hp/tq numbers the LS/b20 should still have the best go at it in H2.

Any one snap any pictures from the weekend? What is ryan's car?

Correct me if I'm wrong but Flaherty's car looks like the Shift Gear CRX that Sam Rothschild previously campaigned.

I don't have any action shots of the HC cars, but I did photograph them in the garage area. I'll post them when I get home in a few hours.

Interesting Edo would you mind sharing your reasons for choosing this size?

I don't think 245s come in a 15. So upgrade to 16s to fit the wider size because wider is better.

That's because Sam help build this car and used the same paint scheme as his car only with the colors reversed. Sam's car had SGR on the side and Ryan's car has other sponsors.
