Default small light fuse blown...sum1 plez help

b4 any1 has any smart *** comments on how i should search i already did and fount nothing...i have a 96 prelude with a blown 20 amp small light fuse...one night i go out for a lil drive and when i go 2 turn on my lights i hear a pop...i notice my gauge lights, climate control lights, tail lights ( but brake lights ), license plate lights, and bumper lights all dont work...first thing i do is replace the blown fuse with a bigger...thinkin maybe my 10k HIDs maybe drained a lil power from everything eles...but i a friend said that wouldn't make a difference but i tried any way...but that fuse blew as well...so i asked one of my friends that works at a honda dealership and he told me a lot of prelude and accords have this problem...it could either be the fuse box or jus a simple short in the circuit...well i tell myself that it cant be the fuse box because cuz then everything wouldnt work, so most likely its a short...does any1 out there no how to check for a short in this circuit or has any1 been in this situation b4...i need help ASAP cuz inspection month is cumin up and there is no way i will pass thanx

So it's only when u turn your lights (headlights on)? high beams and low beams? Since it's only when you turn your lights on that means that a power wire(positive) is shorting to ground somewhere after the light switch. It would really help if you had a circuit diagram for your lights.

Check the wiring for your HID kit. I bet my bottom dollar that's where the problem is. Remove that kit(ballasts and all) temporarily...then try turning your lights on, and tell us if that fuse blows again.

Could be a bad ballast, ballasts drawing too much power, or a wire shorting out. My best guess is you melted an HID-related wire and it's contacting something it shouldn't causing the light fuse to blow...I've seen this happy MANY times, that's why I don't run HID on anything I drive.

I have the same problem (small light fuse blows) different model & year - mine Accord 1992. Just started happening - vehicle at repair shop all week, they diagnoised bad multi-function (headlight) switch now they say that's not it - maybe in dash - that's scary and $$$$ - anyone else have this issue?

You could always put a paperclip in the spot where the fuse is supposed to go, turn the lights on and look for burning wires/smoke. Just make sure you can take it out quickly once you find the problem.

if anyone with this issue of the small light fuse, and you have an aftermarket deck/stereo/dvd playe, any of these just double check that the illumination wire off the harness isnt being grounded out. i just learned this today. hope this helps anyone. please let me know if this works for you. nubbs2385.webs.com

OMG! never thought about that, just put in this used dvd deck that already has Ilumination wire connected to parking brake ground on its own honda harness. Will cut it in the morning, i bet my bottom dollar thats the case.
