Default 88 CRX Si and Quaife

I spoke with someone from Autotech earlier today and was told there is the possibility that the 88 CRX Si can have either the 35mm or 40mm bearings. Can anyone share any insight? Would the VIN # answer this question?

I don't know that it's a guaranteed method, but look at this thread:

Thanks. That post tells me
"88 has 21 teeth on input shaft- 89 and up have 20. This only matters with clutch selection. 88 and 89 used a smaller diameter clutch disc (200mm) and 90 and up used 212mm disc."
Cool. Still need answer about the bearing size. Anyone?

as I understand it...

all SI have bigger bearings

dx/hf share the smaller bearings

It's been a couple of years, but from what I remember, the only real way to tell which bearing size you need is to get your tranny # (the location is shown on your Helm manual), then feed that # to Autotech, or whomever you're buying it from.

When I was buying mine, one of the clowns there said, "All '90s use this size bearing", when of course, I needed the other size. But it all ended well. I'd definitely recommend getting one.

i had a big hassle with bearing sizes and tranny cases. my 89 civic si has the 40mm bearing and i needed to find another tranny case. i am pretty sure (99% sure) the 88-89 Si's use the 40mm bearing. as for the 90-91, i am not totally sure.

if you get a quaife for an 88 crx si, it should be the right size...
