Default Decided To Pull Block Apart And Look What I Found

So since it's spring break for me, I decided I should go and pull apart the b16a block that I had laying around. My buddy pulled this block from his CRX that he just bought and wanted to throw in his boost ready motor so he didn't want the stock b16a so he gave me the block.

My plan was to build this block for boost and after I take everything out look what I find on rod number 2.

It's pretty scored up. I was dissapointed when I saw that. Even when it was still on the crank you can see pieces sticking out everywhere. Good thing I got this block as a gift or I don't even know how mad I could be right now.

What do you guys think about that crank? I guess I just got myself a oversized paper weight

Yes apparently it has been driven for a while like that. My buddy said it ran find when he just bought the car, but smoked a bit. Didn't think there was this much damage to it.

Get it line bored, repair the crank and get oversized bearings. Game on. Way cheaper than buying a used block.

I was also thinking about doing this, but then again just getting a new use block is better assurance then repairing this and having the thought on the back of your head. Besides the block needed to be overbored 20 over since cylinder one was kinda beat up.

not tryin to come off wrong but i think that would cost more than finding a used bare block, and b16 cranks are pretty cheap

line boring is only necessary when you do that to a crank bearing. i wouldnt 'repair' that crank because if you want to put power to it, cutting the crank would remove the nitride coating so find a cheap used crank have it balanced and throw some forged goodies in there, then have a beer

the crank doesn't look bad at all. take it to a machine shop.
I had mine cut 20 over and it's been running great for 20k miles

Two other main bearings had bad wear on them too. Like it was low on oil or something I don't know. But, I just got rid of it because I knew I wasn't going to use it anymore.
