1996 honda accord dies while im driving!!!! whats the prob????
my 96 honda accord v6 will shut off when i am driving.. what do you think it could be bad injector, fuel pump or somthing.. please let me know if you have an idea of what it could be
First question, do you have dash warning lights when the car dies?
Next, how long does it take to get the engine restarted?
Can you hear the fuel pump run a few seconds when the key is turned back on?
Does it shut off and the tach just drops to zero?
Or does it stutter, stumble, cough, gasp, and then die?

it usally starts right up when it dies, everything comes on when it does die, next time i will listen to see if i could hear the fuel pump, when it does die you dont even know it doesnt stutter, choke or anything it fills like i turned the key back and turned it off
I recall this problem with my 98ex 4 cyl...you may want to check with dealer. If I remember, this was a recall issue.
good luck.
good luck.

It's pretty easy to remove the lower steering column shroud, then you can see the solder joints on the back of the ignition switch.
Bad ignition switch contacts will cause the solder joint to look "frosty" or sometimes melted off.
This problem might be hard to diagnose because it is intermittant and the car restarts right away.
But you still should hear the fuel pump hum when you turn the key on before cranking.

My girlfriends 90 Honda Accord use to do that too. It wasn't a V6 but the had a similar issue. It would just randomly die and start right up like nothing. Turned out to be a bad ignitor in the distributor. It starts to go out intermittently before it goes out completely. Hope this helps. Good luck. Keep us posted.
I did a search for "ignitor" and came across another post that may help you troubleshoot.

If it's your main relay go to radioshack buy a soldering gun, solder for electrical components, and a solder braid (to take off old solder) and you could fix it for under 20 dollars. You have to locate where your main relay is and pull it out. When you take out the main relay you want to take off solder off the relay and resolder new solder onto it put it back in the car and you should be fine. I had this problem with my Acura Vigor not starting in the sun, this worked.
