Default Taking off top of air box... Good or bad???

Well, I recently took off my AEM CAI from my 2000 GSR, but the only thing was that I missed the sound when the car was in VTEC... So, I took off the top to the airbox, and now I get that loud roar again, the only thing is I don't know if I can mess anything up by doing this... Any feedback regarding this subject will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.....

bad, the air is not circulating and entring the engine the same way...look up plenum box designs (might need to look up homemade cai posts or info on the net), plus air is hot.

uhh no.

it's just an intake.....as long as you have the filter hooked up to the intake, doesn't matter.

Yes. The car runs better with cold air. Thats why a cold air intake costs more than a short ram. So leave it on. try a drop in K&N.

It sounded meaner with just the airbox cover off of the airbox than it does with a AEM CAI. Not really meaner actually, just deeper. Hot air though, so its shitty.

Cold air means more oxygen=bigger combustion=more power
Hot air means less oxygen=smaller combustion=less power
Think cold think oxygen. (tm)

To answer the original question: no you will not cause damage by running like that.

The stock GSR airbox does not act as a cold air intake becuase it draws air from the engine bay behind the ABS hardware. The ITR box draws air from inside the passenger fender, which is cooler. I doubt you'd see an increase or a decrease in air charge temps with the lid on or off with the GSR setup. You are bypassing the resonator by removing the lid. You might see a 1hp 1-2lb trq drop in the low end by reducing the length of the intake tract and you would see an 1-2hp gain in the top end from the unrestricted airflow, just like a short ram.
