86 Civic Si swap
I've got an 86 Civic Si and I was thinking of swapping motors. The easiest one looks like the 86-87 Integra swap but I was looking at going with the 88-89 Integra. Does anyone know how much of the wiring I would have to change in order to run the blacktop motor? Obviously I know i would have to change the distributor and remove the vacuum advance controls and I believe i would have to add a vss. Would i be able to add wires or splice into the existing civic harness or would i have to swap the entire engine bay harness from the integra?
any help would be appreciated. BTW i have a B16 but im saving it for an EF hatch and the D16/ZC seems more period correct.

i have issues with that comment... whatever..
i do not know what wires have to be added/subtracted but you definately can just add the wires, no need to completely swap wiring harness.

this may help a little. it exlpains how to keep the vacuum advance.

Actually, I want to run the electronic advance ignition.

And what issues might that be? I did think about doing that swap and it wasn't money, fitment, or making it work that stopped me.

i don't understand why people are upset about the B being not "period correct" when it was under development in the 80's and was run in some "in house" test mule 87 CRX's. i dunno. i'm a "resto-mod" kind of guy. looking "period correct" as for rims, i agree. motors. eh. too many people are worried about that i feel. that is ok if you aren't, but i've seen waaay too many EW VS. B series and D16a1 vs B series arguments in my day. i say do it if you've got it. why let the B series sit around your house "waiting" for a project when you already have one? i've got a B series in my AH, but i also have 2 EF's.
Those are some good points and actually with the way the single cam has been running recently, maybe the b series might be pushed to the front of the line. But i dunno i still remember being in high school and reading the Mugen/HKS catalogs and seeing the EA civics in Japan with the ZC hoods/engine and wondering why we(US) didn't get that engine.

And do you think there is some kind of big cash prize for having a motor that is 'period correct'?
WHO CARES??
If you would like the power of a B16A in a 1986 Civic, then go for it! Consider that the 1986 Civic is probably quite a bit lighter than whatever body you would consider the B16A to be more 'appropriate' in. And you will end up with a faster car.

Duuuuude! Is all that crap necessary. The original topic of my post was to see how to wire the 88-89 engine. Im not asking which engine to put in the car. I was just stating the reason why I wasn't going to use the B16 because I was positive that someone would tell me to throw a B16/B18 in the car so I guess thanks for proving my point. BTW I was sure hoping to win 1st prize in the most "period correct" pageant at the JCCS this year.

yeah, i hear you. i understand your points, and a lot of people seem that way, but i don't think these cars will ever be that every much collectible that a lot of people would care that much about being period correct. yes, it is cool. but for every day reliable power, B series are darn fun!! i'll try and figure out an answer for your other question today for you, though, since no one else is helping.

Thanks for the info. I think its time I join Red Pepper. I guess I should expect that guys comments here on HT. An EA with a B series would make a good sleeper....
