howto: Filing complaint against an acura dealership
Does anyone know of the proper number and/or address to file a complaint against an Acura dealership? This dealership is in NJ, I'm currently in out of state (relocated). Hindsight 20/20 I should have waited to do this service, but it is what it is.
Here are some details -- any constructive suggestions as to how to handle this, certainly welcomed.
I've run into a dilemma after taking my car into an acura dealership for a standard valve adjustment. I was short on time before relocating, so I decided this would be the fastest/easiest way to do it at a dealership i've dealt with before. Valve adjustment went just fine, however after getting my car back there is a loud rear suspension squeek which I notice right at the dealership. After close inspection I notice one of my rear wheels being bent, which definately was not the case prior to the service. Service manager insists it probably is just water. (it's not)
Some history -- in a previous warranty service, I've seen one of their "test drivers" in my car blow by me full vtec going ~100mph on a NJ hwy while I was in a loaner car. They actually didnt even wait for me to get far away from the dealership before they decided to rip on it.

I would be straight forward with the service manager. Its pretty much your word against his. Why you would bring your car there after your first experience is beyond me. If he still blows you off tell him your going to contact Acura and explain the situation. Here is the link http://www.acura.com/index.asp...vices
They usually like to fix the problem before it gets to this point.

did you tell the dealer about the ricer fly by last time you were there?
Also how and why is there water in or on your wheel? If they did jsut a valve adjustment they shouldn't have touched your wheels.
I have a good relationship with my Acura Tech he doesn't even drive my car off the lot.

They probably gave him a "complimentary" car wash.

Hey man. I work at a Toyota dealer in Mass and i have to say if we go by the same rules as them you have them by the *****!!Basically you have to be a complete pain in the ****, but thats how you'll get it done. Bascially the service advisor HAS to note any damage on the car prior to writing it up and giving it to the tech, with you present as i might add.Basically go in talk to the service MANAGER and tell him my car was not like this and do it in front of other customers, he will quickly change his mind and give you a new rim. Also ask why wasn't this noted if it came in prior to a test drive and yadda yadda yadda. Rember as a FLAT RATE tech you have to up sell to make hours, so any noise you hear or anything you notice you try to get the customer to fix and or replace.Thats why it wasn't noted. Your all set . no worries. Any other questions feel free to ask.

honda dealer employee here, im gonna assume that your not a roach like half the people that claim this kid of stuff, and give you some advice.
they get this all the time, from people trying to rip them off, so dont be supprised if they just try and brush you off. be persistent, talk to the service manager, but dont go in ranting and raving like a lunatic. we never help the crazies out, we just tell honda that the cust. is a nut-job and they will generally side with the dealer. if the service manager doesnt take car of you, talk to the owner or GM. complaints hardly ever get past the owners office at my dealer, he has gone as far as writing a customer a cheque and personally delivering it to his house on a sunday.
if your still not taken care of, theres numbers on acura's website where you can talk to,
in short, dont be a tool about it all, because then no one will want to help you

"It just depends" is the answer to whether you will get anywhere complaining.
When I first bought the R, within a month I had the local Acura mount new tires on the stock rims. I made a point to say I was bringing it to the dealer because the car was cherry and I didn't trust any other shop. They badly chipped every wheel in multiple places. I raised a big stink and the service manager ordered me FOUR new gun-metal rims and after threatening to talk to GM, let me KEEP the ones that were damaged.
Fast forward 4 years and nearing warranty expiration I took it in for an oil consumption test because I was going through a quart in less than 500 miles. They botched the oil test 2-3 times and delayed the process for over a month and in the process I went over the warranty end-date. They refused to do any work to fix the problem. I went to the now new service manager, then called Honda of America, did multiple phone interviews, had several call-backs, and in the end was politely told to go F myself when they sided with the SM. Of course, the new service manager of our Acura was/is a known bitch by ALL of the car community in our area. If the SM doesn't want you to get your situation resolved, you won't because Honda will side with the dealer, end of story. I ended up paying a couple grand out of pocket to have my head rebuilt by a local "after market" Honda shop (coincidentally run by a different ex-SM from Honda).
So basically what I'm saying is if the SM or GM is a dick, you're screwed. If they care about keeping their customers happy, you might get lucky.
How I've remained a loyal Honda owner after that is anyone's guess. I guess I just love me some Honda. One thing is for sure, I will never deal with our local Acura dealer for sales or service until the current SM is either dead or gone (hopefully both)

Guys,
Thank you for the comments. It definately helps having a few itr owners thoughts. I will contact the service manager as suggested and starting to add some heat.
Again, problem is that the car is no where near that dealership anymore. Hopefully they will work with me getting this fixed at another dealership, or worst case just a refund for whatever labor charges there were.
I'll post up an update when I can...
