Default Misfire Issue (Frustrated)

Alirght so Ive had this problem for awhile since the swap. I got a d16y8 and its throwing misfires through different cylinders and then randomly misfire. Then occasionally the cel will start flashing and my car losing all power and almost bogs down. I changed my plugs, wires, cap n rotor, and all that stuff an it still happens. The weird thing is sometimes my check engine light will be on and other times it will go off for say 3-4 days. Maybe my timing is off? any help would be apprechiated. Thanks

If the timing and fuel injectors are fine, then you also might want to consider a clogged fuel filter or faulty fuel pump.

If your CEL is on, and your car is indeed a 96ex with an OBDII ecu. Pull the codes from the ECU. see if the misfire is isolated to a single cyl and start from there.

I pulled the cel and it said misfire on certain cylinders (1,3,4,2) in no particular order then it threw a random misfire as well. I know the wires and what not are right. Reading up on how to check the timing now since I'm only 19 and teaching myself.

My Wife's 98 civic is doing the same thing. I had the distributor cap, coil, fuel filter, and plugs changed. Plug wires are new to. It got better than after a week it is back doing it again. Its misfiring randomly on all heads. What else do I need to look at to replace or clean?

Fuel filter and distributor have been changed. I have been reading archives for awhile. Looks like a guy had this same issue and changed out the knock sensor and it fixed it. Thanks for the info. Going to change out the sensor and see what that does
