Default Clear over Polished wheel?

For those of you that have refinished your wheels, when you are done sanding and use polish to get everything nice, how do you clear over it? I dont want to clear over the polish and have issues with the clear not adhering.

I'm not sure, but that lip could use some more sanding with a higher grit!

i guesss u can use some sort of adhesive cleaner or thinner to clean the surface. i polished my boys BEAKS* bar adn anodized it purple and cleared it with no problem! but hey someitmes it might have a chemical reaction but its worth a try.

anyone else have other ways?

Yeah its done up to 1500 and MAG now. I would go up to 2000 but im lazy. There is a decent reflection in how it is now. I just dont want to lay clear down over the polishing stuff and it go bad.

That's wierd, it still looks dull and you can see lots of sanding scratches still, but maybe it's just the picture. I would think it would be ok to clear over the lip, seeing as how new wheels with polished lips have clear, that's why you oftentimes see older wheels with oxidation on the polished lips. I'm not 100% sure though, but I'll try and ask around

ah ok, that makes sense. i was like damn it looks dull and there's hella sanding scratches still in it, no way he sanded that with 1500 and used compound unless he's doing something wrong!

I'd say just make sure there isnt excess polish all over then clear it. I'm polishing some wheels now but I don't plan on clearing them.

Edit: Have any pics of how they are now?

But you used a metal polish before applying the clear?

im pretty sure you use that polishing crap first to get the shine, then use some degreaser or wax that will clean the surface, then clear... correct if im wrong

heres my wheels uncleared but polished
