hey guys, i was thinking about buying a skunk2 racing cam gear for my 96 honda accord lx. Its gotta f22b engine in it. Its only mods are cool air intake, and racing exhaust. Was just wondering if i had to change anything in my engine or if its ok just to put the gear in. I'm new to this kinda stuff. And also is it hard to put in

 

IMO.... I would suggest not to buy one for a stock F22B2 engine. Save your money for some suspension upgrades or internals. There is no gain in having a cam gear except for looks on a stock engine. In order to see the fraction of an increase that you may get you would have to dial it in on a Dyno more $$$$ for nothing!

 

ok kool ty, ya i wont get it then. I'm not gonna bother with any other mods for the car then. I planned on selling the car by years end any way, so im just gonna leave it as is. I just wanted it to b a tad faster, cause it seems like its kinda sluggish then it was b4, o well

 

Spend that money on a tune up. You will benefit from a good OEM parts tune up. Probably help with your sluggishness as well

 

ok kool, ya i did have a tune up, i did wires n plugs, but i got oil in my spark plugs so i gotta take off the block and check seals n i think im getting engine sluge, so i wanna clean it all out, thats y i figured i'd buy a racing cam gear and put it on while im in that area doing stuff. Wheres a good place to get parts for a tune up that a priced good?

 

For the seals and small stuff I usually go to the dealership. The dealer parts department prices are sometimes a bit cheaper than the Auto-parts stores. Best thing to do if your on a tight budget is to price shop in your local area. Or check out some of the web links in the FAQ's, down at the bottom of the list there are a few webstores that sell OEM I think. I've never used them myself.

 

An adjustable cam gear wouldn't do anything for you anyhow.

The cam gear it self doesn't make any extra power, but allows for adjustments to the cam which is necessary for highly modified engines.
