Default Help Transmission and Coolant Fluid

1994 Accord DX 2.2 132,000 Miles

Happened yesterday on my way home. The tranny started shifting funny and jumping rpm's. Next thing I know the car started to overheat luckily I was 2 blocks from the house. Soon as I parked it all I see is brown fluid with a hint of antifreeze on the ground. Waited for it to cool now I have transmission fluid in the coolant and coolant in the transmission fluid. I had be noticing black soot from the tailpipe and a stinky odor don't know if that has anything to do with it. Any idea where to begin or what it could be?

If I remember correctly, the transmission fluid of automatic transmissions is circulated to a separate set of coils housed in the body of the radiator. It appears to me that the ATF coil has a leak in the radiator.

I have a manual transmission on mine, someone with an automatic, correct or add to this thread if so inclined.

Just to add, when you replace the radiator be sure to bleed/burp the cooling system so you don't get any air pockets in there. that would be bad. Good luck.
