1987 CRX SI overheating
ok so my 87 crx si is still overheating new water pump new thermo (put in right) new radiator and cap new head gasket (put in right) and the head was even machined and pressure checked and still over heating
its possible that you got a bad thermostat. it might be new but i have seen it before when i used to work at a radiator shop another thing that could be happening is you don't have the system bled right you could have a giant air bubble trapped in side the block. the correct way to do this is to fiill the radiator with antifreeze then allow the car to warm up to operating temperature with cap off eventually the fluid level inside the radiaor will go down and then you top it off and close the cap. im not sure if there are bleeder fitting on that model or not.
we have bleed the system every which way possible from jacking the car up on the passenger side to forcing fluid through the bleeder
is the thermostat actually opening? I know you said you put it in right, but I've gotten some non-funtional parts store thermostats new in the box.
it opened once i know for fact cuz we had a thermometer in the radiator the best we could and i saw the temp drop on it
reply yes my fan is coming on it got jumped so its always on
also this trial thing is annoying me when is it over

ok i got it fixed today there was a blade from the old water pump stuck in the the water jacket where the pump goes you could see it in 2 secs 4 if you had to say where
Haha, ya that trial **** is really annoying when you go to reply and it says you've reached your limit. I think it took like 10 days to go away.
I can honestly say I've never seen a water pump break fins like that, if anything the bearing goes and/or it starts leaking.

yea i've never joined a forum and have a trial thing yea and when all the blades broke off i didnt even lose timing and the adjuster was never even loosened so when we went to loosen it we had to use a 3 foot breaker bar
broken water pumps are extremely common surprisingly in VW's. m wifes' 2.0 99 bug it was a BIG concern for us when we did the timing belt. but, we lucked out and there wasn't any broken fins, but a few cracks. they are made of a composite material, but ours should be metal..
usually when water pump goes in a Honda it will seize up and bend valves and you will lose timing but i didnt bend valves or lose timing it might have been 6-9 hours of head gasket scrapping but since i have done that i hope it runs for another 221400 miles without anything major

Best $20 I ever spent was towing my car to the machine shop and having them clean the head gasket material off my block...That was after 2 hours of scraping and getting nowhere.
This is what I use to remove the old stuck on gasket stuff. It will remove all the gasket and NOT cut into the aluminum. Its made out of some type of plastic. I think you can get them at Sears.
