Thinking about buying a Del sol...
Hey i'm thinking about buying a del sol just for gas mileage. Just wondering if you all thought the car i'm looking at is worth it.
It's a 95 Del Sol S with 163,xxx on it. The car is kinda rough with dents and the paint is fading. It seems to drive alright just needs the usual tune up and what not. The a/c works and everything.
He is asking 2500 for it which i think is too much. I think i could get it under 2k. What do you all think?
I got some pics now.

I would never pay over 2k for any sol in need of body work (other than paint maybe)... What are your ultimate plans for the car?
Honestly i just plan on driving it for the gas mileage. Possibly putting some wheels on it later but i just want something to drive cheap.
del slos are not the cheapest car. just for gas, you'd be better of with a civic man. i mean if i found a sol for 2300 and it was in decent condition, i'd go for it. then again, sols are a lot more here than say south carolina. depends on your location. all in all, we need to see a pic to tell you if its a good buy or not though
Yeah i'm gonna try and get some pics of it tonight. The reason i wanted a sol instead of a civic is i use to have one. So i'm just kinda partial to them ya know. Seems like everybody and their brother has a civic....

If it runs well, and the a/c actually works, 2500 is very fair.
If a/c is priority, that is. A/C work is generally about a 1,000 tab no matter which way you look at it.
to guys that advertise cars that have a/c, but they "just need a recharge" - that means the a/c system is garbage and you can expect to spend close to a grand to fix it PROPERLY.

beautiful cars, but kind of on the heavier side compared to many civics. Also, expect leaks ffrom roof. Try to wash it or something with the guy, and purposefuly give it a steady stream of water all over the roof. Its their achilles heel.
i got mine with 115k miles on it for 2700, it was orig. 4000 but since im in the service he dropped the price for me, if its not something your dying to have and fix then dont get it, plenty of other deals out there, you just have to look and wait for the opportunity
i have a white 96 del sol Si. it has a 102,000 asking $3300 and it gets 28-32 mpg from what i have recorded... (i know this because my car died one time cuz there was no gas.. so i had to push it to the gas station and i put 5 gal. in it and i got 156mi. etc etc.... anyways.. im located in So Cal.. it has other stuff on it too like a momo detachable steering wheel a viper alarm... let me know ill send u pics and let u know more info.
$2500 is too much for a rather ratty-looking '95 S with 163k. I'd start with an offer of $1500 and work up from there. I'd be looking to pay 1800-2000 maximum, otherwise I'd pass. If the interior was clean, maybe I'd offer more, but it's not.
Make sure you have a head gasket test done (check coolant for presence of exhaust gases with a special chemical) before buying. D15B7s are notorious for head gasket problems.
