Default EGR removal difficulties

Im ona 97, and Ive tried searching. I got a cel saying insufficient flow so I first want to try cleaning the egr before I port the plugs. Only thing is I cant get the two nuts off for the life of me. Ive tried using an extension but the real problem is that I cant get a good bite on it. On the other nut I can get a bite but I have no room turn it. I tried buying a swivel but the egr itself still blocks it from getting a good bite. Im starting to strip them so I wanted to see how you guys did it before I screw myself even worse.

Spray some PB blaster, let it sit overnight. Go to Sears and get a Bolt out kit for about $60.

Get a wobble extension. And use a small socket. Works every time.

The only thing I could get to sit fully on the nut was a 1/4 drive short socket with an extension. The small diameter of the 1/4 drive extension had just enough clearance around the edge of the valve.

a wobble flexes making the angle you can get to easier with a regualar socket set. And its ten bucks...

+1

Use PB Blaster and a wobble or closed-end wrench. Worst case, if you start to strip it, I've used a little JB Weld on the wrench (or socket) to make sure it keeps a good bite, then just clean it once it's free. Also, it's better to use short impacts on the wrench as opposed to sustained pressure.
