The motor is misfiring and being sluggish a fair amount of the time, I have only driven it about 10 miles so far, could the preexisting ignition system or a component of it need replacement? I would appreciate a prompt response!

Obvious candidates are the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor. A clogged fuel filter or faulty fuel pump might also cause these problems.
