Default paranoia

Hey guys just wondering if you guys get really paranoid with your motor (I've got a d16y7) sometimes. I've had my car for close to 20,000 miles now and I 100% know all the normal noises and vibrations it makes. But sometimes I'll be driving along and get paranoid that my motor is going to spontaneously blow, even though I know it's 100% healthy and there are no concerns. Does this happen to any of you guys and how do you cope with it? I just get paranoid as hell about it and sometimes I get paranoid about it when I rev it up to 7k and get kind of afraid to do it cause of the stock valvetrain. Then some (most) days I could rev it up to the limiter and womp on her all day and not give it a second thought. lol I think I'm crazy.

Yea i'd say your crazy! But hey I kinda do it too. With the sound deadening stuff out of my car, I hear all kinds of sounds that you wouldn't with it in. It trips me out some times.

ya my old muffler had gotten pretty rusty so I threw a 25" glasspack and an inline resonator on and after I kept "hearing stuff" everywhere I went because the louder exhaust was "hiding bad noises" lol ya I def am crazy

lol ya I've got all my money in my incomplete turbo kit and a y8 head with all the works. So if my motor blew I'd have to smile and put in... ...another d series lol

Look at it this way man: if something does "spontaneously occur" there is nothing you could've done to prevent it. Just deal with problems as they occur. Plus, like the previous guy said...its a Dseries, if it blows either buy another one for 300 bucks or swap out that beast.

ya I know, I'm not worried about it but I just wondered how many other people get paranoid like I do

the only time it would really suck is when I go between college and home because it's 550 miles each way. I don't have triple A or nothing and if I blew a motor in between that would suck big time.

otherwise if it blew around home I've got the motorcycle

i just shrug it off. its just a d-series
you can always get one for dirt if
something tragic were to happen.

its not even close to the paranoia that comes with owning a civic with a more expensive motor. i will put it this way: i would much rather be paranoid about my car not working one morning, than my car not being there one morning.

i feel the same way, but that's because i just swapped in a JDM motor and 300 miles later the crank pulley fell off, timing slipped, etc. i lucked out that nothing broke, but yeah, i listen really carefully now, and am so scared it's gonna break i am afraid to drive it now.

if your scarred your going to break something, sell your car buy a kia and drive it like a grandma. **** is always going to break, regardless of what you might do to prevent it. if something breaks fix it.. life will go on.

I don't mean to offend.... but honestly what is the point in having a nice car if you are too scared to drive it? I have always taken the approach of "drive it like you stole it" Well maybe not that bad but when I get in a car you can know that I have the gas pedal on the floor and I've got my little d series wound up

Life is too short to worry about such things (even if it is 3000 dollars worth of b series swap under the hood)

i agree with you guys, life is too short. i guess i don't mean afraid, but not confident in my abilities any more. i drive fast, and part of the reason i bought the si was how that b16 loves to be run hard. after i did my clutch, i was fine. drove it hard right away. same thing after the timing belt. but having this thing come apart after 300 miles makes me nervous about what else i might have missed. a clutch and a timing belt are WAY easier than a whole motor, so i'm just nervous. once i get the oil leaks fixed i think i'll feel better about things.

Yeah i think i hear noises at least once every trip. i have a system in my car and i'll be driving down the road and i think somethings wrong turn the stereo down and everything is fine. idk why i keep doing it, its probably because i'm just waiting for the time something does finally break.

lol ya I know... I'm gonna get a turboD running fine, also I'm learning to tune with crome all by myself. I figure D series motors are cheap(er) to blow up so that's where I'm starting. Once I have some experience under my belt I'll move up to a B,H or K series.

im completely paranoid becasue i had my engine in the car 2 weeks and the bottom end went to **** (split two of the maine bearings in two) o it s a d16y8.

i put in back to gether in about 8 hrs with the crank in the engine ( this means i didn't polish it)
and now i flog it close to 9k on a regular basis. for me its just a matter of time till it blows. when it does im pulling it this time and doing a full rebuild.
last time i had an auto-x event in two days.

completely stock

it will do 10k but at that high the rings will bend over and u will lose compresion.

im not saying that its a good idea for me to be doing this but i consulted a local engine builder and he said that it could take it for a while but i am running the risk of breaking something.

there is now a little bit of smoke that comes out when i shift im not sure if it is the rings or the head but i looking to do a complete rebuild mid summer

I usually get paranoid when I do an upgrade. I always think that I might have forgot something or whatever.... but it is what it is. PARANOIA! I did however, get super paranoid the first time I drove my car after it was stolen Who knows how the hell the thieves drove it when they had it I spent a week going through every little thing making sure all was good. Thank God it was
