Default ECU = 10hp?

I just went to comptechs site to see how much their header costs, and I saw a dyno graph of a header, filter, and exhaust VS. a header, filter, exhaust and ECU. The one with the ECU made 10 hp more...
Is this gain just on 98 ITRs, or would 2000, and 2001 ITRs see the increase too?

It is definitely possible. One of my chipped P28 ECUs gave me about 10 Hp and 10 ft-lbs of torque in the midrange without any fuel tuning via a fuel controller.

I will post a dyno graph soon...

I don't believe it,there talking about chipping your existing ECU running there program,10 WHP is hard to believe. If you were switching to a p30 or 28 obd1 I would. But I've never seen a WHP increase from chipping an ECU.

So you've never seen a WHP difference from using an ECU better suited to your mods with better fuel and timing curves?

My skunk2 chip program pulled a lot harder than the USDM b16 ecu im using now.. and both are ODB1... 10 HP might be a little much, but defenitly possible... VTEC was a difference between night and day..

I'll be trying out Kenji's P28 re-chipped ECU in the next few months. I believe all his products deliver as promised.

Anyway, the follwing is the info I got from Kenji: (cut and paste)

"I have attached a dyno graph of what one of my P28 ECUs did to my '98 ITR. The only difference is the ECU."

it's just like tunning stuffs, and i believe tunning is more important than anything

Cosworth,

Thanks for posting that dyno graph for me. I think we-todd-did-racing is down so I could not post any pics.

Please keep in mind that I did not tune the ECU with a fuel controller. There is still a good amount of power to be found up top and down low by using a fuel controller (e.g. VAFC or Field).

Well what I'm saying is I've never seen an 0bd11 ECU get 10 WHP from an ECU program.

My tuned Hondata was accidently switched to another program and I went from 196 to 180. I put in Kenji's ecu and untuned I was 192. Does that count.

Well to clairify,It's my understanding that 0bd2 ECU's are almost impossible to chip and gain anything worth mentioning,ITR's are all 0bd2,until I see the dyno its hard for me to believe chipping an 0bd2 ecu and gaining 10WHP.

Dude, P28 ECU that Kenji chips is OBD-1. I don't think anyone ever said anything about chipping an OBD-2 ECU anywhere in this post.

well the point is kinda moot since the ecu wont work on a 00-01 anyways whcih was the guys question.. so if you have a 00/01 just use a p28 and switch to obdi

Comptechs ECU is not OBD1.

My apologies. Didn't know Comptech re-uses OBD-2 prog... HOWEVER, since comptech has ties to Acura/Honda, they probably can crack the OBD-2 codes a lot easier than most guys out there. Hence, you could see some gains... but, most of us go with OBD-1 P28 ecu anyway.

Kenji's p28 is very very good. I just recently got it last sat and driven it hard once. Pull is definately noticeable after 4500rpm all the way up. Vtec streams and is stronger. I will post a better review once this BS rain goes away. Heading to the dyno in two weeks so will post a before and after plot of just the ecu. Aside from the performance standpoint. Kenji is very professional and courteous. Answered all emails in a timely manner and received shipment on day as promised. Kenji imho gets a BIG

Walter,

Thanks for the kind words.

I have found that when you do a mod and it rains it is a good sign. Due to the fact that you can not go out and enjoy the mod when you do it.

Kenji

Let's just say Vtec + 11000miles stock tires + rain = slip n slide

If you think that program rocks, you should try the Mugen N1 program that I have (Kenji has it now too). Unless he integrated the two programs since I got an ECU from him, the Mugen proggy was stronger than his.
