I'm a little bit confused about the procedure if I want to block off the coolant flow that runs out of the intake manifold right behind cyl. 4 (next to distributor)

I understand I must T off the fluid flow but what I'm trying to get at is the need to drill the 6holes in my thermostat before I can install this gasket in its "race version" with the coolant block off uncut.

It is listed here in Number 2 from Hondata's DL site

Has anybody done this before successfully without removing the coolant block off?

you do not have to drill the thermostat.
All you have to do it tee the heater line coming from the side of the head
to the port that the other line went to on the thermostat housing.

What about the idle control vavle?

 

you sacrifice that. so if you're in cold climates, expect up & down idle
