Are you asking if you have to separate the transmission from the engine?

When your playing with the tranny you should obviously be able to feel what or get a general idea of where it is binding!

Try to figure out what is holding it in. You sometimes have to let the engine hang down a bit on an ef chassis to get the trany out with ease. And also take off the bar that goes from the front cross member to the control arm on the passanger side. Makes getting the tranny in and out 100 times easier!!

yes, remove the linkage, you don't want to damage it. an AC compressor bolt is the perfect size to punch out the "bitch pin" with a hammer. I found that big heave hammers don't necessarily work better because its hard to get a good swing on it unless your car is on a lift. a smaller hammer sometimes works better, but if you have an air hammer, *BRAAPPPPPPP* done.

also make sure the transmission brace on the bottom (if there is one) is removed, and the dust shield/bolts are completely removed.

also, if you buy an 8mm center punch, or a bolt that is 8mm wide, it will make quick work of that spring pin you are having trouble with.
