3rd Gear Grinds and dont know why...
So i have a problem and dont know how it came about. For some odd reason my 3rd gear started grinding about a month ago its not like a terrible grind but its there. Anyways i replaced the clutch with in that time, i replaced everything that needed to be replaced with it and the transmission fluid is the only thing i need to do. Which im doing this weekend.
But i was wondering if any of you guys have had the same problem and what fixed it for you. It only grinds at high rpm's like around 7500 and up and i figured if it was really bad itd be on every gear.
So do you guys have any suggestion i would like to get this problem resloved and stop it cause it hurts to hear.

keep in mind its only a bandaid solution but its worked for many people

If you can replace a clutch then you can replace the snycro too. Its not hard to disassemable the shafts.

I would go OEM. however you can purchase syncros that have been coated. I don't feel its worth the extra dough. The tranny shifts so smoothly already.

Number 9 is the 3/4 sycnro sleeve.

there's a lot more finesse in replacing synchros than replacing a clutch. I know many people that can do swaps all day, but couldn't even pop a case apart.

. I have two bad ITR trannies and all internal parts ready to be swap in; And yet, I keep giving myself excuses not to open them up

i would have to agree, although ive done it, i wouldnt recommend it to anyone unless they have help from a person who has experience..

^^ very true. i've rebuilt several trannies, b-series being the easiest. BUT it is very tedious work, and several things have to be lined up PERFECTLY and several things HAVE to be TIGHT. anyways... I'd suggest using the GM Synchromesh (pretty sure its GM Part# 12345349 IIRC) in your transmission, while in the meantime, search about and study up on b-series transmissions (the little red search button in the top right on this site is THE most helpful button having to do with honda information, you may also want to check out the 94 integra manual on redpepperracing.com), and probably find a buddy who has built them before (or just do it yourself, if you feel so inclined), save up and buy a new 3rd gear and synchro set from len at Sons Acura, and whatever else you may need... etc..
and good luck

I didn't have any issues taking about my b-series for the first time. Granted I do own a press but I mostly used a propane torch when I took apart the shafts. Everybody says the bearings come off easy. Mine did not and using a bearing puller would have make things so much eaiser insteading of banging the shift of out it. But if your pretty mechanical then I say go for it. Just follow the helms. Once you see the shafts in your hand and its make its a lot easier easy. The hardest part I had was putting the change holder assembly back together.
I did buy the omni man dvd which shows the transmission dissambly but to be honest it didn't help that much. Omniman just pretty much says to use heat for everything. The helms was the most useful tool. (OT: dvd is for sale if someone wants it)
