Default Rear Quarter Rust

I'm just wondering if anyone has used a kit similar to these with any success...

Replacing the rear quarter panels is frikin expensive -- just the panels alone are expensive as hell new. Then the work that goes into replacing them is hefty, definitely out of the scope of what I have the time/equipment to do at this point. I know that replacing them is the best option but my wallet and I just want to see what alternatives are out there.

How durable is mesh and filler? Is mine too bad? I'm particularly worried about the passenger side... they both suck tho

That actually doesn't look too bad. Patch panels would probably be alright. have you pulled your interior and checked the backside yet? Also, how do your rockers look?

I do not recommend the mesh, fiberglass, and body filler route. If you don't plan on holding onto the car for a long time then by all means go for it (with an experienced bodyman it can look great). However, I personally wouldn't be able to live with knowing what was under the paint/behind the interior panels (regardless of how long I decided to keep the car for) . Just my 2 cents.

Best of luck on your choice

okay since im in collision repair this is like a walk in the park for me. as stated b4 remove your rear interior and verify if the rust has penetreted beyond the surface, if not this will be easier for you not to worry. you can sand down the rust. i recomend feathering out the paint. just in case ur not sure feathering means when u sand down each layer of paint u want them to be rings around eachother. from bare metal in the center where the rust is at to the clear coat. its like the paint layers are stretched and pulled back like stairs each layer is a step. after that u can take it to a body man and he could straighten the metal fill any rust holes and repaint the area. the term is called "Spot and Blend". if u need more info PM me

I'd definitely take a look behind your body kit on both sides :

- Doors
- Rocker panels
- Wheel arches

So this is pretty much what NOT to do...

card board and bondo? u might as well scrap the rex. look find ur self 20 guage sheet metal fairl cheap for a square foot. cut out what u cut and have an experienced welder weld it up for u. grind down the welds and then u cap use a GLAZING PUTTY for minor inperfections. that bondo u used will and i mean will fail with in a year or less. do it right the first time. oh and for the steel automotive grde is preferable but if u cant regular metal will do fine

You call that rust!? Wish I had a pick of mine.

Buy the patch panels and cut them to what you need, don't use the entire piece. Thats what im doing so i dont have to bother with shaping the flares or anything.
