Rust on rear quarter panels?
civics are known for there rust on there rear quarter panels. Mine is just starting, sorry i dont have any pictures but my weekly salary covers car parts not digital cameras. I wanted to know a good approach to get rid of it. I have never done that kind of work and i was wondering if i should have it done and how much it will cost. The rust is just starting under the wheel well and by next spring it will be pretty bad. I wanted to get it rid of it as soon as possible. and I will do a search now. I wasnt thinking about it at the time, but opinions would be great. thank you.

I was going to try breaking off the loose pieces of rust (pretty bad on pass. side) and then use that rust inhibitor stuff. Then when it gets a little warmer out, i was going to bodo it up, then paint it. the pait wont look totally proffesional, but 100x better than the rust.

if its just a quick fix..just sand it down with a fine grain..then prime over it real good..there s really no cheap fix for rust damage though
if ur looking for a more permanent fix check the yards for a panel..its still going to be costly for repainting

If you want to just stop the rust from spreading I would sand the area down and use a product called Por15 (http://www.por15.com/)to seal the metal. I don't know a lot about body work but I learned about it from a guy on this website: http://www.alfarestore.com/index_splash.html that was restoring an Alfa Romeo... I'm sure his car was much worse than yours.
I recently used it to seal an area in my front wheel well where I had some bars added to my roll cage. Hope this gives you some ideas of what you can do.

I am having the same problem, and dont have the money for new rear quaters and paint. My rust is just surface, so is there anyway I could just sand to surface rust off, and then paint? Just need a little help so solve this little prob.

Here's how to help prevent the rust:
1. Take off the outside tail-light covers inside the trunk (like you were going to replace a burned out bulb.)
2. Get a flashlight, and shine it in so you can see the rust.
3. Use Rust Check or something like that, and spray it in there untill it starts dripping out of the car onto the ground.
4. Repeat every 6 months.
A guy who owns a body shop here in town told me this, and I did it. The rust hasn't gotten any worse in over a year. So I guess you could say that it works.
Even if your car is not showing signs of exterior rust, spray it down to keep it from ever forming.
cheers

I paid $300 at a body shop to have both my mine cut out and new pieces welded in and painted. Looks like new, and I think I got a pretty good deal.
