VSS wire in my 97 DX cannot be found.

VSS wire in my 97 DX cannot be found.
I installed a JVC KD-NX5000 the other day. I spliced into the vss wire, thinking that it was blue with a white stripe. There are 2 wires under my dash that match that description. I tried one, then the other. Neither of them work. Is there any way that I can meter these out or something to be sure of which one is correct? Thanks
